Whats the purpose of first quarter senior grades for Early Decision/Action?

Junior year, i didnt do too well in my AP classes, getting some As and some Bs, and A’s in my non-AP classes.

so for this, im wondering what the intention of first quarter senior grades are?

is it to make sure theres no unexpected drop in grades?

or is it to give students like me an opportunity to show improvement by getting all A’s in APs rather than some Bs?

because I am taking on a more challenging courseload this year, and I’m getting pretty similar grades in the APs. im worried that colleges would see that i’m not making any improvement and may defer me.

thoughts?

Yes to both. Some schools are just making sure you’re not skating, others will see if maybe your trend is up.

Agree that it is yes to both. May students who want to demonstrate strong senior year grades wait for the RD round so they have a full semester of grades to show.
