<p>a) The industry you are in
b) The firm you are working at, and how well it does each year
c) How well you do at your job, both in absolute terms and relative to others
d) How good you are at negotiating your salary</p>
<p>u have to be very good to even get hired, and even super duper better to get a great bonus. i can see that u r worried about salaries. check out hedge fund portfolio managers and hedge fund credit analysts on google. most of their salary may come from bonuses.
example: hedge fund managers probably make about $100,000/yr, but their bonuses can get really high: 6 figs, maybe 7 if u r a genius</p>
