^Um, not sure what the person you spoke with is talking about, but LAST YEAR the Dec 21st EA date was used as well....everyone who had applied by Oct 31st, was notified one way or the other by Dec 21st......so far, this year's admissions cycle is almost identical to last years; many, many qualified candidates not hearing within the supposed 8 week time period....
Last year there was the excuse that UMich couldn't handle the volume of the ER applications (in fact, there was actual verbal verification of that to our guidance office)....what's the excuse this year?
Totally uninvolved in the process this year, but IMO, a school of the caliber of UMich could certainly figure out how to get it's act together....you don't see these issues with other large publics (UW-Madison, IU-Bloomington, etc.)....

uhh, maybe UMich was unprepared last year and this year they have a better plan of what they're doing and are spacing things out better and are more organized? i doubt that this year will be identical to last considering last year was pretty much a trial run of EA for them.

thanks to goblue and hoedown, i feel mildly better than i did after reading the posts that came before yours . . . anyway, as of this moment, i haven't heard from a single person within my county (which is pretty large) has received any response, positive or negative.

Could you post the link where Michigan promises an 8 week ROLLING reply? I'm not aware of any school (except Purdue) that has a 8 week ROLLING turn around, certainly not Wisconsin or Indiana.

The only commitment I'm aware of is the Dec 21 notification for students applying before the Nov 1 ER deadline. Last year Michigan weren't able to keep that commitment due to unexpected large response. The indication so far this year is that the process is running smoother. Let's wait till Dec 21.

Btw, Wisconsin has switched to an early notification scheme like UIUC this year. Students applying before Nov 15 will all be notified by Jan 15 (for UIUC, it's Nov 1 and Dec 12).

Sorry goblue, I cannot show you the link because it was from last year....I didn't know it was removed from the admissions website this year.....again, my apologies....and yes, let's wait until Dec 21st for the verdict.

its the 24th
not the 21st

LAST YEAR: apply by OCTOBER 31 know by DECEMBER 21
THIS YEAR: apply by NOVEMBER 1 know by DECEMBER 24

don't worry, i applied oct 8th or something and they got all my stuff by the 17th and i havent heard anything... its definitely stressful but you may have just gotten a slow reviewer or theyre waiting to compare you with some other applicants.

as as im concerned the longer they hold my application the better...it means they're milling it over and really thinking ab out a decision instead of an instant yes or no...that way if i get accepted i know ill deserve uit..i applied september 23rd btw

oh and whatever ramennoodles was talking about.. i assume youre a student, and i think youre just freaking people out by talking, and we get so caught up in reading what everyone else posts we forget to consider how much do a bunch of kids really know about this stuff? university of michigan is known for being extremely inconsistent and spontaneous, and i dont even think u of m employees know their admissions patterns that well, because there arent very many concrete patterns. so rammennoodles, i would refrain from being that bold with your claims, because its discouraging.. and to those of you who are listening to that stuff, take it with a grain of salt because most of the time, no one really knows anything for sure, and sometimes people just talk. don't go making any hasty decisions based off these posts.

FWIW, it's also taking them a little longer to evaluate people this year. They had some turnover in readers, which tends to slow things down a little bit.

Rodney -- I realize the date is the same. What the counselor in our region explained was there was not really the same kind of "rolling 8 wk window" as before and that the new METHOD of assessing meant many would not hear until December. And he said it is "different" this year than last. (BTW, my date is wrong, is Dec. 24.) Hope that helps clarify.

My application got completed yesterday. With all material received finally on WolveAccess.

When can I expect to hear back?

Never............

Thanks a lot, that was helpful

:)

Dr. House --if you have been reading any posts on this forum, it is clear that no one knows reliably when we will hear from UM no matter when your application is complete (other than 12/24). So why ask?

Besides, whatever the people here do know, its about ED, and you're not ED, so I can't really say.

A simple no-I-do-not-know-thank-you-for-the-opportunity-to-probably-help-you-out would have sufficed.

no I do not know thank you for the opportunity to probably help you out

The thank you was supposed to be in quotes. My bad.

Okay...so here's for a serious question:
If I'm not Early Response (there's nothing like ED at Umich, dear blue rhapsody), I can almost certainly expect a response after 12/24? It's usually not common for unies to be ahead of their deadlines, is it?

another early response question: the website kept saying the deadline was nov 1 but then other places (and some of the people here on cc) say its oct 31. i, the procrastinator that i am, didn't submit it until the 1st (my transcript, recs, etc. were already there but i still had to hit send on my online app). will i still be considered for early response?
