Any views?

Both really great schools & both formerly women’s colleges. Conn is ranked higher in USNWR’s rankings, if rankings are important. They are both highly regarded in the New England region. Both also need more male students!

thanks SLUMOM…does anyone know when they’ll send letters out for RD?

Wheaton is about 30-40% men, and the administration has stated that they’d like to keep it that way, as a link to their past as a women’s college.

Tchy61, I think their website said they would send emails to the students during the week of March 22nd. So it is by email.

Well MADad, schools that are 40% Male & 60% Female or thereabouts are less appealing to both sexes! This was in an article I read about gender disparity in the colleges.

The Sunday NYT just did an article about it at UNC-Chapel Hill, I think there was a thread on it here, somewhere!

I work at Wheaton so I don’t normally post to this board, but in the interest of accuracy, I thought it might be helpful to report that our male:female student ratio is 60:40. This is the average for liberal arts schools nationally, and it has been for a number of years. There was no “decision” to maintain this ratio for historical reasons. Email notification of RD is sent at the same time as postal letters; email arrives first, of course.

I meant to say that the ratio of women:men is 60:40.

My S is an RD international applicant…fingers crossed

mgraca:

Just based by comments on what I read in the local paper (Sun Chronicle).

Wasn’t being judgmental, just passing on info

SLUMOM-

Just givin’ the facts, ma’am–not making a judgement on the appeal of a M/F ratio to applicants.

In general, there are more females in college than males–part of a nationwide problem.
As a 33-yr educator I can you girls are more driven than boys. Maybe the educational system is stacked against boys (I’ve read that), I don’t know.

Well, S got offers from both Conn and Wheaton (Community Schol. plus stipend) so chuffed to bits. Tough choice now. All schools have strengths and weaknesses but these two it seems have more in common than not…any views? Ultimately it’s where he feels happiest.
