When am I supposed to get my scholarship?

Not really get it, I suppose but have it offered? I’m not wording this right…
Okay, I was just accepted to my top choice college. (I know! I’m writing this in between my fits of happy dance!) But, they supposedly reward scholarships automatically based on GPA and SAT scores and it hasn’t been offered yet, though I am stalking the award page for updates. I’m above their standards and submitted my application September 3rd. (I was reaaaallllllllly excited.) And, I was told early, apparently they don’t release decisions until November 20th. Should I just be patient? Or should I email them? There is no mention of having to fill out the FASFA first since it’s not need based but is that it? Do they always require that? In that case, will I not find out until January? Please help me, this is a full ride at my top college, I REALLY don’t want to mess this up.

be patient.
contact the admissions office or financial aid office late next week.
and congratulations.

Can you be more clear? What college is this? Are you supposed to get a certain merit scholarship for your stats? What are your stats?

@menloparkmom
Are you sure? I don’t mean to be rude or second-guess you. I just don’t want the college to think I’m uninterested. Or, if I do ask, that I’m only interested in the scholarship when I really like this school, but I can’t afford to attend without it.

If decisions aren’t made until the end of Nov, then why are you expecting to know now?

@mom2collegekids
Oh, sorry. I totally forgot. It’s North Carolina Central University. I have a 3.7 UW, 4.3 W. I have a 1980 SAT(I was gonna retake but then I found out it was already enough for the full ride). Here’s the scholarship, on their website
Soaring Eagle Scholarship:

Incoming freshmen designated National Achievement, Hispanic, or Merit Semifinalists by the National Merit Corporation and having a 1650 on the SAT or incoming freshmen who have at least a 3.50 high school GPA and scores of 1900 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT will receive the following over four years: In-state tuition and fees, room, board, books, $500/semester stipend, internships, and a laptop. Students must take the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) in the junior year of high school to compete in the National Merit Corporation programs.

EDIT:(Just saw your new message) They accepted me early, I don’t know why. Do you think they won’t award scholarships until after November 20th?

Excellent work on finding that scholarship.

it doesn’t look like the award is assured. Can you show a link? Where is the full ride mentioned?

NCCU offers a limited number of merit-based scholarships to incoming first-year and transfer students. If you would like to speak with an admissions counselor regarding merit-based scholarship opportunities, call Anthony Ervin, 919-530-6095. Additional financing options can be found here.

What about Troy Univ…what would you get there? WHat is your M+CR?

@“Erin’s Dad” Thank you. Do you think I should email them though, or just wait?

It’s called a Chancellor of Success scholarship, other students who obtained it in previous years say it’s automatic.
It’s also here http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/ which I think was made on CC. It’s also listed in a book that contains automatic and competitive full ride and full tuition scholarships offered at US schools each academic year.
My score break up is 640 CR, 700 M, 640 W.

Are you a resident of NC?

Are you a National Achievement Semi Finalist?

did you apply to Troy U?

No, no and no, I’m afraid.

In-state tuition and fees, room, board, and if Pell Grant eligible, a $500/semester stipend.

How will you pay the OOS portion of the tuition?

Is it too late to apply to Troy?

I’ll also be work study. OOS is waived for them. Also, if that doesn’t work, I should qualify for a lot of federal aid. Troy requires a 1420 CRM for full ride. Tuskegee and Coppin are full ride and Howard is full tuition, room. I applied there and then UAHuntsville, (accepted, full tuition) Baylor(still waiting) and Minot State university. Do you think I don’t have the scholarship? @mom2coIIegekids

No, I don’t think that.

On Monday, use the number in the post upthread and call that contact persom.

Alright, thank you very much.

It is okay to call and ask exactly what you will receive. The schools know that you will only go there if you get the scholarships, that you can’t afford it otherwise. They know that it is complicated.

It is not unusual not to receive the scholarship information immediately. My daughter was accepted in October, didn’t receive her merit aid until February, after she’d filed the FAFSA. Just ask the school when the awards will be issued and noted on the web for you. If you will qualify for Pell, make sure you file the FAFSA.

Am I missing something? The Soaring Eagle Scholarship that you posted states that you must have earned a National Achievement, Hispanic, or Merit semifinalist designation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Did you receive one of these?

It’s National Achievement, Hispanic, or Merit Semifinalist designation, and a 1650 SAT or
1900 SAT and a 3.5 GPA. But just to be sure, I emailed the school to confirm how the scholarship works so I’ll update y’all soon.
Thank you all very much for helping me, I was in freak out mode, and it was helpful to have an objective point of view.

Kudos on being so informed about the merit choices available to you!

I would call the contact person on Monday and ask how the scholarship process works, you applied for admission, do you need to do anything else and when will the recipients of this scholarship be notified?

Be polite and thank them for their time.

What is your home state? What do you want to study?

There might be options instate as well, and if you qualify for federal aid you might also qualify for state aid.
