When are admission decisions coming?

A bit of advice for all you guys feeling discouraged about SCS:
Yes, the admission rate is getting smaller and smaller, and the cutoffs of admits are becoming higher and higher.
BUT a word from an SCS reject: you’re stressing over nothing. It really doesn’t matter.
You should start stressing when you get rejected from all the programs you applied to at CMU.

Basically, students who get admitted to SCS think it’s what they want. There are many, of course, who stay in it and absolutely love it. There are a few who try it out and they’re like “well…crap, this is actually not what I expected at all, I’m out. Toodles” That’s what happens to A LOT of freshmen not just at SCS, trust me.
Meanwhile, SCS rejects who decided to attend CMU for, say, ECE, Math, Physics, etc etc come here, without ANY trouble take all the CS classes they want. Sometimes they also go like “well sh*t, boy am I glad I’m not a CS major, it’s a pain!” and yet they have all the freedom to take only the CS classes they desire. There are also some who take the CS core with all the SCS majors, again, pretty much with no trouble at all, and do very well. After a while, they decide that it’s what they really want, and they either do a minor or a double major. Which, in actuality, is pretty hard yet satisfying for a lot of students. Others just transfer into SCS.

So long story short, I’m just trying to put some encouragement into this seemingly low-morale thread. Once you’re at CMU, you spend your freshman and possibly sophomore years trying out different things and deciding what you what. That applies to all majors. When you’re rejected from SCS…you’re never actually rejected :)

@CatOfTindalos
that class, 15213, is more of a “need to” take class haha. It’s actually required for ECE, CS minor, CS double major and CS major. So if you want to do anything computer related, you pretty much have to take that course. Hence it’s “big and famous”…
CS minor is easier than DM but obviously the classes required for just a minor can still be very time consuming.

Anyone know the size of envelopes if accepted, rejected, or waitlisted? :D

anyone got any letter today?

@ucmom1 they are mailing on monday.

ok…thx…

yeah i have a friend who works in admissions and they said that the decisions were all done being made on thursday and that they would be mailed on mornay. Also she is in charge of calling people who got accepted starting monday so some of you guys might hear right away! Good luck to everyone :)

CMU calls everyone who are accepted?

Had a minor heart attack just from reading the CM Admissions Twitter feed. Acceptance rates are crazy low! I probably don’t stand a chance for the School of Design…

i doubt they call everyone, but i guess they try to call a lot of them! I’m not sure entirely but obviously it’d be unrealistic to call 12,000 people (since according to her thats how many got accepted)

does she know what the overall acceptance rate was?

@19KLS96 Check CM_admission. They have been answering those questions and repost them on their page.

@19KLS96 she said 35,000 applied and 23,000 got rejected (roughly) so it would be 34% acceptance rate. and thats pretty good!

Well what about the waitlist candidates?

i didn’t ask, hmmmm

@lilemmie do you know if calls are made to international admittees?

@lilemmie Thank you! That’s a much higher rate than I thought it’d be.

From CMU’s twitter responses: SCS=6%, CIT=17%, and ECE=14%. Those are really low acceptance rates.

IS = 12%. Now I’m scared. :-</p>

Guys i checked “Where am i in the process” today and found out that it says decision notification letter was sent to me
on 7th march and i did not get anything until now ( i understand the slow snail mail because i am an international applicant)

I have thought that the letters would only be sent on 24th march, which is today.

So, it is a little bit confusing.
