When are you guys going to buy textbooks?

I'm not gonna use any AP credits so I'm pretty much going to take the courses listed under freshman fall semester in my major undergrad catalog. But is it still too early to buy text books?

Also, where are you going to buy them? Amazon? or school bookstore?

as a student i'd really, really recommend waiting until you get to cmu before worrying about buying books OR contact former students on facebook if you must have books over the summer to study ahead.

the book store is over priced, half the books aren't necessary, and students sell their books a LOT cheaper (no delivery fees, no risks, etc)

theres also a newsgroup that cmu students use to sell random stuff, books included that would save a lot of time.

yksmirk is refering to misc.market. You can get your books for half-price or less, and then sell them again the next semester. I got a 5th generation book for $10 (instead of 150) and sold it off for the same price the next semester...basically a free book, and it was in good condition. I had ordered a few books ahead of time (from Amazon and half) and was much less satisfied.

Once you get a CMU andrew account, you can sign up under folders. It's cmu.misc.market I believe
