when can I ask online advising questions?

I'm a freshman this year. From the new freshmen important date, I see that I can ask online advising questions on Aug.18th. Today I go to new student website, but that part still doesn't open. Does anybody know when can I ask online advising questions? Do I need to wait until Aug.30th(the day for enrolling the class) to ask? Thank you.

You certainly don’t have to wait until the 30th. Maybe it was down today or something like that. I would try again tomorrow.

Ok. I’ll try. Thank you. By the way, do you know what do we usually ask about advising questions? About the schedule? About whether is the class full or not? Or something else? Can the counsellor recommend some good professor for our course?

You can ask your adviser pretty much anything. If you want to find out which professors are good or not, you can just check out [Rate My Professors | Find and rate your professor, campus and more - RateMyProfessors.com](http://ratemyprofessor.com) or [CAPE | Course and Professor Evaluations](http://www.cape.ucsd.edu).

Well if can see if classes are full or not in the schedule of classes. It is fair to note that they will be opening up a lot of spaces for freshmen though. And the academic advisors can’t really give you professor recommendations (I wouldn’t think at least). For one they don’t actually attend classes and secondly it would seem weird for them to bias students towards professors or not. What they would probably do if you asked is direct you to the CAPE website which adl0816 already did for you above. And here’s the link for the schedule of classes if you hadn’t already found it.

Thank you!

I have another question. I go into the link you gave me, but I find that the classes I wanna choose(CSE 8A and 8AL) are already full. Do I need to change my plan? Are there any priority for freshman to enroll in classes? Thank you very much!

Alright, so this is one of those weird situations where you see a class that has 0 total spots. That right number normally means the total number of spots in a class and the left number is the number of spots left in the class. If the left number goes over the right number it turns into a waitlist. When the total spots is 0 (and somebody correct me if I’m wrong) that means that they’re unsure on how many spots they want in the class. But I know many classes open spots for freshmen and this is inevitably one of those cases. WLH 2005 holds 200 students so the class should open up spots for freshmen because it can hold more than the 92 already signed up.

When freshman enrollment opens, everybody who isn’t a freshmen is locked out until the last freshman sign up time is I think, either that or until the start of the quarter. Either way, upper classmen can’t steal the spots they open for freshmen so you don’t have to worry about that. So I think you can get the class when freshman enrollment starts. I don’t make any guarantees though. Ha ha. It’s always a good idea to have a backup in mind just in case. Hopefully that all made sense.

Thank you very much for the explanation! I appreciate that!
