Hi,
I'm entering my senior year of high school and am interested in taking the ACT. Is it possible to take the test in September with the writing portion and receive my scores in time for colleges to accept it?? I heard it takes 5-8 weeks for scores to come if you take the writing test. I'm not applying to any colleges EA or ED. Thanks in advance!

Yes if you test in September you will receive your schools way before January 1. The ACT actually posts your scores online Composite, Reading, English, Math, and Science portions within 2-3 weeks after taking the exam. The only score you will not know until 5-8 weeks is your writing score out of 12. If you don’t like your score in September you will still have time to take it again before applications are due.

Yup. I took mine June 14, and I got my multiple choice scores yesterday. I’ve taken it three times, and each time (except the last one, obviously), I got my writing scores back about a week later. The 5-8 week range is the maximum amount of time it could take to get scores back. Fill out the sheet on test day correctly, because that can delay scores. Plus, 5 weeks from September puts you in October, when college apps aren’t due until December-January. The only concern I’d have is it’s your first time taking it. My first ACT was my worst, and my third was my best. The ACT gets immensely easier with each sitting; the first one is extremely difficult because the timing takes getting used to. I have friend who scored in the teens on the first try, but were able to get it up to mid-twenties in later sittings. But enough of my lecture you didn’t ask for, study and take the September ACT and your scores will be back within a few weeks, in time to apply for colleges RD.
