ok i start community college jan 2011 as a freshman im not planning on staying for an associates im planning on transfering to vcu asap whenever i can but since i started late at this community college when is the earliest i can transfer? can i transfer as a second semester freshman in 2012 since i think im gonna miss the deadline for this year or am i?

You can apply for transfer whenever you feel ready. You don’t have to stay at your CC for a specific length of time.

Check the website of the university that you want to transfer to, and find out what you need to do to apply.

You are either a classified as an incoming freshman or transferring (or at least in progress) junior. You cannot transfer as a second semester freshman. If a school wants you they would have accepted you already and one semester will not make any bit of difference.

but im saying when can i start applying because im going to CC in jan

most would say on your third quarter (which would generally be your second fall) since you started late, this would be your next fall. I assume your fist semester will be spring. If you do decide to apply on fall, expect to get rejected unless you have some amazing spring/summer grades. the transfer process takes around a year as well, so don’t expect to find out anything until spring.

Ok, by ‘VCU’ are you referring to Virginia Commonwealth U correct? If so then their deadline for freshman consideration is Jan 15th. You want to contact VCU now and again in November and try and set up a TAG or whatever they call it then. Research the classes necessary for completion of their guaranteed admission. Take what they suggest if are serious on going there once they okay it. If you know your major already then tell them, if not, no worries. Best of Luck!

yeah virginia common wealth, i dont think ya’ll get it though i dont start cc till jan so when is the earlyest i can apply to vcu seeing that i start CC in jan and what will i be cause im not tryna stay in CC for 2 years aka till im a Jr

You are starting at CC in January.

You would like to be there for a while, and then transfer to VCU.

You want to know what would be a reasonable length of time to be at your CC before applying for transfer because you really don’t want to stay there long enough to complete an AA.

Here are your options:

1) You can apply for admissions to VCU now, and by-pass the whole CC-transfer issue.

2) You can apply for admissions to VCU to start there after you have completed a semester at your CC.

3) You can apply for admissions to VCU to start there after you have completed more than a semester at your CC.

If you will be attending a Virginia CC, the counselors in the transfer at your CC should be able to tell you if one or another of these options is more likely to result in your admission at VCU, and help you plan your courses so that you can increase your chances. However, only the folks in the VCU admissions office know the whole story. They are the people you should be discussing your options with.

Like I said…Jan 15th is the freshman application deadline for VCU. You want to start communicating with them now and let them know your intentions. That is the most prudent method so you don’t screw yourself if don’t want to transfer as a junior but more specifically a freshman. If they are interested in you then ask them to grant you permission to take spring CC classes that they may recommend to you.

If you did well in HS, there is a fair chance they may admit you for fall but you have to begin starting the process now. You may risk freshman entry if don’t let them know your intentions and/or start taking classes. If you start now you should have some idea by the end of the year what that school’s decision will be with enough time to sign up for local CC courses.
