How many times and in what months can I take the SAT before most early decision/early action time period and how many times and in what months could I take the SAT before most regular application deadlines? Thanks

go to the collegeboard website, it's under "calender"

The only one that you could take before early decision/action deadlines is the October test.

For regular decision, definately November and possibly December, depending on the school.

Generally for ED/EA you can do October, and maybe November. For RD, November, often December, and sometimes January are taken.

October 6, 2007 ---ED AND RD
November 3, 2007 ---ED (rush scores) AND RD
December 1, 2007 ---RD
January 26, 2008 ---RD(rush scores)
March 1, 2008
May 3, 2008
June 7, 2008

Question 1: Why don't they have summer tests???

Question 2: If they can't have summer tests, why is the first test in October? Why not a September test???

Likely Answer: The College Board is a bunch of jerks.

That is a reasonable rule of thumb, but it is by no means certain. It is necessary to check with each individual school to see which tests they accept.
I especially would argue with your statements about the Rush scores. Some colleges will not accept these at all, or will not accept than at a later date than they will regular scores.
Yale, for example, is quite lenient in that it will accept through November for EA and January for RD. I also looked at Columbia, who suggests that for RD one should not take it after December (Though allows November for ED) but also states "Please do not utilize the “rush” service in sending your test scores to Columbia; doing so does not speed up the processing of your test scores."

Thanks guys

Because very few people would actually take an SAT during the summer, and finding proctors would be difficult.

[quote=fhqwgads2005] Question 2: If they can't have summer tests, why is the first test in October? Why not a September test???

No one would think about signing up until they returned to school. October is the earliest a test can be given and still provide a reasonable enrollment deadline for students who return to school after labor day.

I, along with many others I know are greatly stressed because of the lack of summer SATs. With APs and SATIIs in the spring, it is almost impossible to find time for an SATI. Then, I only have 1 chance to take it before EA/ED
