When Colleges say one page, do they mean single or double spaced?

<p>Speaking of ambiguity, when colleges say x characters, do they mean with spaces or without spaces?</p>

<p>I think without. I am not sure on that one though. I would suggest putting in a sample essay with x characters without spaces and see if it fits.</p>
