when did schools become 9-12?

<p>I was talking to my neighbor and she told me when she went to school it was 7-9 and 10-12 for highschool.. just wondering why and when did they change it to 4 years? i know it's trivial, but i want to know.. hehe. any parents here that know?</p>

<p>Certain districts still have 10-12 as high school. It all depends on the district some even do 8-12 as high school. But in every district grade 10 and above is always high school.</p>

<p>I attended junior high( 7-9) and high school( 10-12), but most districts for many schools have middle(6-8) and high school (9-12)instead.
I think it is because not as many students are making it all the way through 12th grade in the building whether they are out because they dropped out, are at the community college taking college courses, the high schools needed to add more bodies to make best use of space.</p>

<p>My district is K-6 / 7-8 / 9-12. It just changed from 7-9 / 10-12 four years ago here.</p>

<p>Each province in Canada has its own standardized school system. High school in Ontario, for example, is from grades 9-12, but high school in British Columbia is from grades 8-12.</p>

<p>My district is K-6, 7-8, and 9-12, but the 7-12 section uses the same classrooms and section of the school, and K-12 is all in one building. The other local districts are usually K-4 or 5, 5 or 6-8, and 9-12. I suppose it just depends on the financial resources of the district.</p>

My first one was K-6/7-8/9-12
Then my next one was K-4/5-8/9-12
Then K-5/6-8/9-12
And my current one is K-6/7-12</p>
