When did your parents give you your first credit card?

And how did you get them to give it to you? Its something everybody should have for emergencies I think. And its good to get to learn how to use them before you really need them. And how much credit can you put on your card? Even if it was just $600 or something like that it would be a good idea. I know somebody that works at a bank. Its one of my neighbors and I bet they would give me a card if I wanted one.

I have a debit card as part of my student ID at my dual enrollment university. I have $250 on it, but I just use cash most of the time. I was 17 years old when I got it.
I know it’s important to build credit, but I don’t really want to mess with credit cards until after college.

I received mine last week - I’m 17. I’m trying to build my credit, it has a $750 limit but I don’t touch it, ever.

Parents won’t let me get one until I’m 18.

What if you have a emergency and need cash tho? So are there some that don’t have a age limit then? That’s what im hoping.

My credit card is registered on my Dad’s account but its in my name - so I think that’s why there isn’t an age limit.

My parents decided to give me a debit card instead of a credit card as a starter. My dad added about $450 in emergency money and he’s actually the one that spent it after I had it for about three years. I had it since I was fifteen.

My dad already said I’m taking it to college so I have enough for a medical emergency since I have a weak immune system. I doubt they’ll get me a credit card. They say it’s a messy business and my parents rarely use theirs.

I got a debit cart when I was 16 due to me traveling overseas without family. All money on the card is my own and if I were to go over (though it is yet to happen) I would have to pay the fees myself. I rarely have more than $20 on it… A lot of having a debit or credit card goes with being financially responsible to begin with. My family was fine with me getting a card because I am responsible, if you are not you don’t need a debit/credit card yet.

I got my debit card at 16 as I was living away from my family and credit card at 17 because I needed to pay app fee for university application.

I got a debit card when I was about 12, sometime in 6th grade I think.

My mom just decided to give me one so I could keep track of whatever money I got.

Next year lolol

I don’t have a debit card or a credit card yet. Here in Taiwan they aren’t that commonly used, so it’s never seemed too strange, I guess. I expect that I’ll probably get a credit card once (if?) I go to college.

I have a debit card but it’s put away because my parents just give me money whenever I need it. And my parents are getting me a credit card through our bank for college, so sometime in the next year

I got my first debit card when I was 17, so I could just use it for direct deposit for work instead of trying to cash my paychecks every two weeks.

I have a credit card thats attached to my parents bank account, like they place money on the card from their account and control the card from there. I usually have little money on it at a specific moment but it gets replaced regularly. I got it when I was going on a trip to europe for emergencies but now I use it at home for paying for gas and other emergencies every now and then

That would be cool even if its linked to my parents bank account and they paid for it when I buy stuff. They would know what you are buying and that could be bad but if they pay for it then that’s good. Then the limit amount could be whatever. The problem tho is I need to get them to believe I need it. But everybody should have one for emergencies cause you never know when you could get stranded somewhere and if it rained and all your money got ruined then the credit card would still be good.
