When do bridges, differels, and rejections hear back?

@carolinamom2boys Do you know if they look at just the composite score or do they look at the individual numbers for English/Math/Science? Also, is there an out of state cap as in other states? After looking at other school postings and those seeing numbers on accepted, deferred or rejected, I would love to know exactly how some decisions are made…for curiosity sake. It is upsetting when not accepted when we thought our numbers would get us in. I know it has been said it is just the numbers but how do they decide when the numbers are so close. The one thing that rings true…you will end up in a school that is good for you. No matter where you go Ivy or non Ivy it is what you do with your education that will determine you success. Best wishes to all…hope you all get your 1st choice school.

@sunset88 I believe that they look at composite scores . I don’t know if there is an OOS cap. One was not mentioned when we went to information sessions . It is frustrating to not be accepted with food scores . When my son was applying to his schools last year, we had no assumptions , and waited for each acceptance as if he didn’t have high stats. You don’t know who else applied that year . I really believe that part of the problem is people are applying to 10-15 schools. The same high stats kids get accepted at all of the same schools which limits opportunities for other students that truly want to attend a school . That’s JMO. Good luck to you.

@carolinamom2boys That is such an interesting point about kids applying to so many schools. And yes, you have no idea what other applicants you are up against. It’s different every year. Just like you can’t show up to a running race expecting to win when you have no idea who the other competition will be. The more a school gets a reputation for being more selective, more higher stats student will apply and things will continue to become more competitive.

Thank you @carolinamom2boys . I absolutely agree with your numbers. I do know that is the average number of applications I am hearing this year. We just hold our breath with decision release as nothing is guaranteed no matter how good the chances are. We will be patiently (well maybe not so patiently) waiting for the mail this week hoping for the big envelope!

I do empathize with everyone waiting. I have a HS sophomore whose dream school is Clemson. The reality of the situation is that by the time he applies , he will be shut out. We have begun that discussion already. It’s not a pleasant one to have, but it’s necessary.

Clemson makes a grab for the OOS dollars. For every OOS admitted in favor of a comparable SC kid, the school collects $20k extra. Go Cocks!

Hi there. I’m an OOS applicant for Clemson, (Texas) and was wondering what bridge was? Also, the notification of acceptance / rejection comes in the mail correct? I literally have no information on this from anyone. I don’t know anyone who has ever applied to Clemson. Also when should I expect to get something in the mail… I know this week, but beginning or end? Mon/Tues or Wed,Thurs,Fri??

@WhoaBigFella  My daughter hasn’t heard yet. So far, all of her friends that heard this weekend were bridged as well. Many with really strong credentials. We are in state.

I would think you would get something tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.

Me? Kayla ?

Yes @nduclaunc you should hear tomorrow or Tuesday. A lot of applicants heard yesterday.

@kaylamissy thank you!! Also wondering what have been average stats / admit rates in the past?

For those that are in-state:  If you have sons/daughters that have heard and/or their friends that have heard over the weekend from Clemson – Are most getting straight into Clemson or bridged? Just curious

@WhoaBigFella you may want to check OOS students at USC. They throw a lot of money to OOS students and take it as well.

You can read the posts on here but if you are not in the top 10% of your class , at least a 4.5 weighted GPA or higher and I would say at least a 30 ACT you won’t get in. And I’m not sure if you will get in with those stats and it also depends on what major you picked.

@SCLADY12 , from the applicants that we know that heard yesterday… 2 bridged, 1 accepted and we know a few that didn’t receive anything yet.

Gotcha. I believe I chose marketing or a business admin degree. Clemson app was so weird and unusual. Definitely not the norm. Also what is bridge? And is that just for in state?

Academic Requirements
Bridge students enroll at TCTC for their freshman year and start their course work in the fall semester. To be admitted to Clemson for the sophomore year, Bridge students are required to earn a minimum of 30 transferable semester credit hours and a 2.5 grade point average during their freshman year at TCTC. (Course credits and GPA must be earned after high school graduation.) Students who satisfy Bridge academic requirements will be admitted to Clemson for the subsequent fall semester without being required to resubmit a Clemson admission application. Students who do not satisfy the Bridge academic requirements will be encouraged to apply for admission to Clemson at a later date.

While grades earned at TCTC will not subsequently be included in a student’s Clemson grade point ratio (GPR), the grades and credit hours a student earns at TCTC will count toward determining the student’s eligibility for the South Carolina LIFE scholarship.

Community Living
Community living is one of the most important experiences for a first-year college student. Bridge students live in four-person apartments at Highpointe of Clemson, located four miles from TCTC and two miles from Clemson. Upper-class resident advisers coordinate social and academic programs and are available to assist students throughout the year.

@kaylamissy Thanks! You are probably correct about the general stats for getting. It’s possibly higher. Several I know have those stats (or a little better) and received bridge.  However, I’m not sure of their majors. I would imagine anything science/engineering will be very competitive.

Kayla , thank you so much. I appreciate it. Also does Clemson have automatic admits for in state students? Like at ut/ Florida / other public flagships in their state?
