If people who got that letter saying they need more time(me), you think its better to send your senior year grades?
Accepted today! Found out via portal around 11:45am, expecting acceptance letter to come via mail soon.
Application complete: 11/2 (so this is my 10th week)
OOS: NJ
GPA: 3.9
ACT: 30 C (28 E 27 M 32 R 32 S)
Major: Linguistics
@SALSRL when I logged on it said “new updates to your application” and I clicked on that and it showed me the letter. Also when I checked later on my computer the first thing it says is “congratulations”
@mfrankel1 Thank you! Congratulations on your acceptance! Still waiting, but we are just coming up on 8 weeks.
@SALSRL mine was at 12.5 so I’m relieved! Hang in there!!
@bigtenhopeful34, weighted or unweighted gpa?
Appears that the Left Hand does not know what the Right Hand is doing at UD, nor do they care to understand the importance of clear communication.
Son’s application complete with UD on 10/2
Received an electronic correspondence on the portal date 1/8/15 indicating they need additional time to review my S request for admission (due to high volume of quality applicants) and they hope to have good news for us by mid Feb.
On January 11, we receive a letter from UD in the mail (dated 1/7/15 - which is before the date on the electronic correspondence in the portal) indicating that they received aps from many quality applicants and hope to have an answer by mid April. They go on to say to send mid term grades and any additional test scores. In this letter - what was lacking was the ‘good news’ language in the letter we received thru the mail.
So I called UD on this, and they simply said they made a mistake and that we would know more probably by March.
Now we have three different dates - Feb, March and April. So a kid applies October 1st and they may not hear until April??
So unfair what they are putting kids through. He applied for early decision because he wanted an early answer. These are life decisions kids are making – you can’t expect them to wait 6 months for a decision. As I explained to the Admissions Counselor – if it is a No - just tell us. We’ll move on, but don’t play this game with kids.
Fortunately for my S he has been accepted to 5 other reputable schools, including PSU Univ Park. Because of UDs reluctance to take responsibiltiy for what I consider a major error on their part and their inability to remedy the situation, he has moved on. He made the call last night and accepted to PSU-UP - We Are!
@jrs1997 3.9 is my weighted gap
I know this is going to sound like sour grapes – but – my S applied on 9/8 and was told his material was ready for review on Oct 27. In November we received the letter that said hope to tell him by mid-February. Today his portal was updated with the EXACT SAME letter they sent him two months ago. I am left to wonder if admissions knows they have already sent him this letter (??) I am an alumnus of UD and am so disappointed with this process. My son feels as though the school is shopping around for “better” students and throwing him some crumbs to keep him interested. This coming from a kid who has a very high gpa, an impressive list of ECs, leadership, part-time jobs, and excellent letters of rec. His stats are well within the “averages/above averages” that Delaware posts. I respect the colleges who present expectations and stick to them. If it is a no, then say it so we can redirect. A six month turnaround when some students are hearing back three weeks after they apply? He feels very undervalued by UD – and I agree with him. My daughter is a UD graduate, but when she applied, the school told everyone on the same day and this torturous waiting game was avoided. I highly doubt UD has more applications than PSU, PITT and UCONN and these schools seem to manage it. I fear our blue hen pride may be fading.
@sarahknoz2 If you look two posts up from your’s, looks like you are not the only one with that issue. Hope UD is not starting to “play games”. We are coming up on our 9th week and have heard nothing at all. Only email we have received is that the application was complete. I actually had my son log on to his portal again to make sure it still said his application was complete. My D applied 2 years ago and UD got back to her in 9 weeks with scholarship info too.
Still awaiting acceptance:
2050 SAT, 33 ACT, 3.8/4.6 GPA
Application finalized 11/26
Applied for Exercise Science major.
I just passed 7 weeks since app finalized. Hoping to hear back soon. Best of luck to everyone!
It’s been ridiculous this year. This is our second child that has applied. 4.2+ GPA, 35 ACT, SAT2s 800/760. Great ECs and probably LORs. Applying engineering. Application was complete 8+ weeks ago. Not a word, other than portal saying application complete. He was hoping for Honors College, and possibly DiScho chance. Not sure what to think!
It took 10 weeks for. My D to hear, just hold on I know it’s hard
My D had her high school send her grades back in November and the portal does not list them as received. Has anyone submitted grades and noticed the portal listing them as received?
@dmarie109
My transcripts were sent 11/25 and received 11/26. This was just my original transcript though, not updated marking period 1 grades.
Just was accepted!!! 8 weeks and 1 day. I got the online application status update, but no letter yet.
ok so Delaware is my dream school and I’m just about ripping my hair out of my head. I’m going CRAZY with anticipation. I got a letter say “due to the volume of highly qualified applicants it will take addition time to finalize our decisions” blah blah blah. I’ve been checking my portal every single day seeing if there’s an update and nothing. My stats are fairly decent 1780 SAT (a little low) great essay, 3.95 GPA, top 10%, sports all 3 seasons for all 3 years, various clubs and titles, I even took AP Calc 2 this year. I’m literally about to lose my mind because I have no clue if I’m going to get into this school or not. PLEASE HELP!! Has anyone else recieved this letter or have similar stats? When will I have my answer?!
A number of individuals in several threads on this board have reported receiving a similar letter so you are not the only one regarding a decision timeframe in mid-February. This is only the third year that UD has been using a “rolling” type of admission process, they just got a new Admission’s Director last year, so the new process appears to still be in the developing/refining stage, and this is very frustrating for applicants still waiting to hear (I am not trying to make excuses for UD, I am just giving my perception of what is happening). Unlike many major universities (i.e. Penn State) UD does not just screen people with minimally identified stats (and just rejects anyone below these stats) but rather looks at applicants in a more holistic manner. This takes time to do this with 25,000+ applications (perhaps a “rolling” admissions process is not best suited for this). Every year some students are accepted with relatively low SAT/ACT scores but other factors that UD looks at is what got them accepted to UD. Similarly, there are students every year that are indignant that UD did not accept them with very high SAT/ACT scores but failed to impress UD with the other factors that UD looks at. From input on this Board last year it would appear that most OOS students were accepted in Feb/March so IMHO this is what is most likely to happen this year. Some majors are also more competitive than others so this also needs to be taken into consideration. With Monday being February 1st I suspect that we will start to see an increasing number of decisions being released in the next 2-3 weeks. Hang in there everyone. Good luck.
Well, the mid-February time frame is looming. My D was told in both November and again in January that UD hoped to give her news by mid-February. As she waits for her dream school UD to answer her, she has been opening up her mind to new dreams and we are going to a Decisions Day at another University this weekend. She is excited and is working hard to push UD out of her heart. She was told 15 weeks ago that her application was complete. I am both an alumni and a current UD parent. My D is a great student – but does not score well on standardized testing (ACT of 26). She has applied to the Business School (Management), OOS, 4.0 GPA, 5 APs, 4 dual-enrollment courses and the rest Honors, several huge and meaningful leadership roles. Waiting for this decision has been brutal - especially when she sees peers being admitted who have no plans to attend UD. We realize that the Business school is competitive, and we realize that many students have stats that are higher than hers. But to wait all this time – and most likely the wait is far from over – and be denied admission will be horrible. This after watching students being admitted three weeks after they apply. Although I will be very disappointed if she is denied the opportunity to attend a school that I have supported for so many years (can’t tell you how many people I have directed to UD over the years or how many donations I have made, aside from the OOS tuition that I am currently paying), I am thankful that she is seriously considering accepting an admission offer this weekend – to a university who values her. I think it is very clear that standardized test scores are the driving admission influence. Admissions may be more holistic than some other schools, but it really is a numbers game. Checking the mailbox and the online portal for 15+ weeks is frustrating – and yes, heartbreaking.
@dmarie109 she should get in to UD. I guess they have a lot of good applicants but she is still at the top
