When do the "normal" acceptances come?

not excited about Pitt

Actually my son is excited to go to Pitt. We are from Nebraska (so yes, we are out of state as well)... and of course UNL rolled out the red carpet for him... but he wants to aim a little higher. Pitt seems to be a very good public university... has a good physics program which he wishes to pursue... and he also loves marching band, which may have been a long shot at USC (given the arts presence I guess ... whereas none at Pitt).

And yes, he was offered full tuition plus some at Pitt... still some hope of more still too.

Unfortunately, I don't expect us to qualify for much if any financial aid. So, half tuition (yes... as generous as that is of USC to offer him... we realize there's no free ride)... just isn't going to cut it for us. Our budget is basically enough to pay for room and board at most schools... that's about it.

25K/year is a lot to pay for 4 years, which is roughly what it works out to at USC if the student has 1/2 tuition scholarship. We tried to encourage S to accept UAz or other schools that offered free-rides, but he really wasn't interested, so he's at USC & thriving.

USC offered my son approximately $17k a year (1/2 tuition)... which it appears they offer to every NMSQT finalist (akin to the full rides like the ASU program you're probably alluding to... which my son turned his nose up at as well... much to his Arizona retired grandparents dismay).

Pitt is no ASU... he'll take their full tuition + $2500 towards studying abroad (or at least until something better comes along... he's still waiting for a few more selective schools yet... but for now it's not a bad 'safety').

I'm not sure my son measured up to USC's 'cool people' anyway. :)

jhuston - I'm not trying to change your mind, and I don't know about Pitt, but the ASU Barrett Honors College is actually a terrific program. I've met the Dean, and know a couple parents whose kids attend. I'm very impressed, and I urge those disappointed by USC to take a second look. It's not too late to apply, and NMF's are guaranteed $23K per year for 4 years. I would gladly send my son there.

all i got was the not eligible for trustee/presidential scholarships, no finan papers or a paper requesting mid year grades; is that a bad thing?

I barely got the one for the finaid papers on Monday the 25th.

jhuston,

My son is also a NMF and has not heard from USC. When and how did they contact you about the $$? Do I have to call? Thanks
