I've noticed they haven't posted the list of books for Fall 2009 courses, and I was curious as to why... isn't it getting around the time when we should be ordering books? I know you can reserve them through the bookstore now, but I've heard it's cheaper to get them on Amazon or Half.com. I'm not really sure how it's supposed to work... does anyone know anything about this?

The booklist is posted on Monday, Aug 10. I’m not sure when you’d like your books, but from what I’ve heard, some students order their required books around this time while some people would wait for the beginning of the school year. If there are any optional books, no one would usually order them unless the professor specifies it once class starts.

The book list normally isn’t released until 1-2 weeks before school starts. And I have heard Aug 10 before, so I’m assuming nhsharvard is correct with that information. From my experiences, 2 weeks is definitely enough time for getting your books through Amazon, and most professors don’t even care if you have it the first lesson or two. But as to whether or not it’s cheaper, I’ve found getting a used copy from the bookstore can be cheaper if it’s a newer book that’s not that expensive to begin with since with Amazon you also have to add in shipping costs.

I agree with acalboy. From some colleges classes I took at other colleges before and after graduation, it’s good to compare the bookstore’s prices with the online prices. Sometimes the textbook needed is a custom textbook and usually custom books are only sold at the bookstore.

The booklist is out, but the ISBN numbers don’t seem quite right.

Yep, I’m doing price comparisons right now, and the ISBNs don’t go far enough, and give multiple editions. Anyone have any info.?

for textbook reservations, are we REQUIRED to buy the books once we reserve them? I reserved them for my law class but it doesnt let me pick and choose and i only need 2 of the 4 i reserved but i had to reserve all. Am i required to buy all?

i would like to know this too. im sure you are not responsible for buying it though as it says they wont keep it after aug 20(?)

i just ordered all my books on half.com and got it for cheaper than one of my books USED at the USC bookstore — and i removed my reservations too :P

Is it likely for a book to be dropped from a syllabus? That’s my only reservation from ordering now.

Also, when you say reserve a book, does that just mean you can buy a used copy if need be?
