I applied october 4th with a 3.2 gpa into the urban and regional planning department as a transfer student. what are my chances of getting in? and when do i hear back?

im not sure either
i applied with a 3.5 in nutrition/food science a couple weeks ago =/

Not sure about transfers, but it seemed like it took FOR-EVER for FTF last year! Ugh, hopefully they let you all know earlier this time! :)

I sent in SIR deposit 2 weeks ago but still haven’t got definite answer if I’m officially in. My application status is still “provisional admit”

Admissions are on a rolling-basis, which means from Dec 1st - April 30th. I’m sure they are trying to avoid what happened last year, when students heard from them until May and some even got admitted in July/August.

Yea I am still waiting to hear back also, even though I know I most likely won’t get in.

hey i applied as a transfer student for the spring of 2011 in the beginning of NOV. I received an email saying i was admitted on the 17th of NOV. I applied for engineering technology, when i originally wanted civil engineering with environmental engineering BUT it was a closed major when applying for spring 2011. I was wondering if anybody can help me with my problem. How do i switch majors? what are the policies that they have for switching majors and what is the process? Do i have to go there for a semester or more first? or can i go right ahead of trying to switch majors? If anybody can be of assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

My advise:
Apply for Civil engineering before the Nov. 30 3010 deadline. It’s tough to switch to an impacted major. Civil engineering was not open for Spring 2011 admissions because it is impacted.

Civil engineering might be open for the summer of 2011, but the CSUMentor website has no information about which majors will be opened and/or closed. If it is open for Summer 2011, you will have to submit your application by February 28, 2011.

thanks for the response calpolyengineer. I will look into my options that i’ve been given. Also, i’ve been told that If i wanted to switch majors that I need to contact the civil engineering department and talk to them about it. Do you know the process about switching majors? I still have over a year of PRE-REQS to get done for civil engineering environmental engineering, so do you think it would be plausible to get those pre-reqs done WHILE trying to switch majors?

Switching from a non-impacted major to an impacted major is like re-applying to the university. I have heard from people who were rejected in architecture but where admitted as something else, and think switching to architecture is easy once at CPP. From their experience I can tell you it is not.

Contact the department of civil engineering and ask them about whether or not they will be considering admits for summer 2010. Otherwise you will have to wait until November of 2011 and will probably lose over a year of studies.

Also, beware that engineering technology is not the same as engineering.

Engineering technology trains you to be a technician.

calpolyengineer, yeah man i totally found that out. and it was a total bummer. I was like ****…what do i do now? hah you know?. Well all i could do is contact the CE department and ask what you said. Thanks CalPolyEngineer, you’ve helped out tons. and i totally appreciate it.

Also, when you say i’m going to lose a years worth of studies. Does that mean I CANT take any Civil Engineering Environmental Engineering option classes? Like CE 122 Intro to CE? or will I be able to take these major prerequisites although I am not labeled as a CE? I still have a ton of classes before I get into the upper division, like some physics, basically all the CE classes except surveying, gen chem 2, and linear alg. I know it’s going to take a while to finish it up but do you think i would be able to end up switching to a major with the amount of time available until i start taking upper division classes?

Sorry, you cannot. You can only enroll in those classes if you are a civil engineering student. It says so in page 251 of the catalog:

http://www.csupomona.edu/~academic/catalog/col_schol/CoEng.pdf

Also, for your other question, refer to the civil engineering-env. option curriculum and see how many classes you have left to complete that lead to a B.S. in civil eng.

http://www.csupomona.edu/~engineering/current/currsheets/ce-env-10-11.pdf

You can probably start taking some prerequisites by using the two links I provided above.

Bear in mind, that this is going to be a risky gamble. If you start taking this classes next year and end up not being admitted into civil engineering you could potentially lose more time. The engineering technology curriculum is very, VERY different.

Good luck.

Three words, Wow, damn and thanks. thats what i got to say. hah i appreciate it very much it’s like speaking to a counselor. I understand that it’s a complete GAMBLE and a huge risk. I guess i would be getting other classes like, gen chem 2, linear alg, and physics out of the way for my first semester. Then I would see IF it’s POSSIBLE to switch majors throughout the spring semester. I appreciate all your help CalPolyEngineer. I will contact the CE department within this week and most likely ask you more questions. Once again, THANK YOU and I appreciate your help. Now to study for my Calc 2 test tomorrow!

OR i will also take your other option of apply for CE environmental engineering for fall of 2011. I will look into my options and see whats up. HUGE THANKS
