When do we hear? and big or small envelopes?

BC says we hear by xmas, but do most people find out literally right before christmas or more like dec. 15th, etc.

and does big envelope=acceptance, small envelope=rejection/deferral??

Dear collegelookin : Remember that the Boston area will be mailing tens of thousands of parcels between December 15th and Christmas which means that your personal package could vary by as much as a week compared to others in your area. Expect to hear your results in that ten day period.

Yes, Boston College has historically delivered the news using the big and small envelope method.

My daughter and I live near Boston so I hope that we hear sooner rather than later. My son got admitted to Boston College three years ago and the package was a large, flat envelope.

Do they end up posting it online as well? (For those traveling at Xmas)

Dear collegesgirl : Acceptances are not posted online although there is usually a thread on Boston College’s college confidential page regarding links that are added to the Agora page after an acceptance decision is rendered.

^^yes, it’s the famous (or infamous) sixth tab, which links to the financial aid page. Last year, for example, applicants only had access to five tabs upon logging into agora/portal. But, once a positive decision was made, a sixth tab would appear online. Large envelopes arrived a couple of days later.

Rather stupid bug, IMO, but its been out there for a couple of years now. Perhaps they fixed it? (I say “stupid” bcos BC wants to adhere to snail mail, but in fact the sixth tab is an electronic announcement of the admission.)

does anyone know when than tab pops up on the agora portal? is it on december 15th !?!?!

under the old portal, nearly everything was a batch process, as far as I could tell just watching the announcements. Thus, admissions would admit and mail and enter the decision on Day 1, but the systems updated overnight so the Financial Aid tab appeared on Day 2. A Housing tab appeared either on Day 2 or even later.

But, BC upgraded its system this past summer, so perhaps no more batch process, no more tabs?

Does anyone know if on the Agora applicant status, it actually states that your application is complete? Mine just lists all of the items received (which seems to be everything) and lists nothing under required heading. Do we just assume then that the application is complete? On other online systems they actually state that the application is complete.

AHHH! I had a financial aid tab about a week ago, and it was gone 2 or 3 days later. I hope this is good news!!

I had the financial aid tab too but it’s gone now!

OK now I’m freaking out. You two say that there was a financial aid tab…I don’t check Agora ever so I obviously didn’t see if there was a tab or not…

And would there even be a tab if I said on my application I would not be applying for financial aid?

so when do we think we will find out…sometime next week most likely?

Not to worry, that happens on occasion, particularly if you log in late evening. BC has several servers that sync at night, and sometimes agora will point/link you to a server that should not show up based on your applicant status and login ID. So, later when you log back in, that link disappears, but it should not have shown up in the first place.

(Late one night last February my D checked her agora and had full access to everything, including web page, BC’s internal e-mail, Housing complaint forms, class registration, etc. When she logged in the next morning, it was back to ‘Hello Applicant…’)

if i didnt apply for FA should i still be looking for that 6th tab?

Shoot. Bluebayou just killed my hopes haha.

Thank you for the explanation bluebayou. I cannot wait to get a letter!!! Hopefully we ALL receive positive news.

Last year (granted, this was for the regular decision process), there was much speculation over those who had the financial aid tab on their Agora and what that possibly connotated. Later, it was discovered that those had the tab had been accepted. So, if you see the tab later, and it stays, then it is most likely that you were accepted.

^^searching cc, you’ll find that the ‘tab’ also indicated acceptance in the previous year as well. (Obviously, BC was not in a rush to fix the bug.)

does anybody know if the FA tab would still be there as a sign of acceptance even if I didnt apply for FA? && would the tab be going up now?
