I'm a senior this year. Do I fill out FAFSA now, or wait until Jan 1 for Fall '10 admissions?

Stupid question, but the FAFSA website confuses the **** outa me and I'm unsure.

The FAFSA for the 2010-2011 school year is not available until January 1st 2010.

The one that is currently available is the 2009-2010 FAFSA which is for the 2009-2010 school year which is the current school year. Do not complete the 2009-2010 FAFSA if you are looking for aid for the 2010-2011 year. It will not count as having applied for 2010-2011 aid at all (including it would not count as having met any deadlines your school may have). We have a handful of students every year who miss their school deadlines because they complete the previous year’s FAFSA.

Speaking of stupid questions:
Is there any reason I’d have to fill out the 2010-11 FAFSA if my kid has a full ride scholarship? I’m thinking not, but is there something I’m overlooking? Sorry to waste time on a question that seems so dumb, but I want to be sure before I blow it off.

Grizz…is your child going to be an incoming Freshman? If so, check your school’s policies. Of course the hope is that your youngster will qualify for that full ride scholarship for his whole college career…but if not…some schools do not allow students to apply for aid in subsequent years if they do not apply as freshmen. Also, does your “full ride” cover EVERYTHING including personal expenses? If not, you might want your kiddo to have a stafford loan…something the student is eligible for if they file the FAFSA.

All of the tax info required for the '10-'11 FAFSA is from 09 returns, right?

Yes…
