I am going to college next year (2010-2011), but I filled the fafsa under 2009-2010 because the 2010-2011 option was not available. However, I was filling my boyfriend's fafsa the other day and the 2010-2011 option was available, now i'm confused and I don't know if I should just re-type all my information into the 2010-2011 form. I don't mind re-typing it...just as long as I'm applying for the right year.</p>

<p>You need to use the 2010-2011 form. That earlier form is for the current school year.</p>
<p>Yes you need to redo it. You have not applied for financial aid at all for the 2010-2011 school year until you complete the 2010-2011 FAFSA. The 2009-2010 FAFSA will not count for meeting any deadlines or for applying for aid for next fall.</p>
<p>When you start the 2010-2011 FAFSA it will see that you have completed a FAFSA previously and will give you the option of populating the 2010-2011 FAFSA with personal data from the previous FAFSA. However you can not just retype in the same financial data. You must update all the financial data. The income will be the income information for 2009 (not 2008). The asset information should reflect assets on the date you file the 2010-2011 FAFSA.</p>
