just wondering when do you get 2005 returns back? i need to do the idoc

I don't understand your question.
Are you asking when will you receive a tax refund?

There is no set time, though the sooner you file your tax return the less time (usually) it takes to get a refund. People who file in February may get their refund in two weeks, but those who wait until April 15th to file may wait a month or more for a refund.

Back from where Salik? Who has them now? Did you send them off someplace to be prepared? As a rule, no one would be sending your returns back. You prepare them, or have them prepared. You sign . You send and that return never comes back. You work off your copy you made before you sent it. Maybe I'm not following your question.

I think Salik means the actual form so he can submit to IDOC. Not the refund.

how do you people know all this stuff about taxes. Aren't you just kids?

SalikSyed ,

You do not have to wait until your parents tax refund comes in before filing your IDOC. You just need to turn in a signed copy of the federal tax forms that they filed complete with copies of the W-2 forms.

What do I do if my parents do not have their taxes filed come March 1st? I know I can send my 2004's to the colleges, but what do I do for the IDOC?

Talk to your parents. With financial aid filings, parents HAVE to get involved. Show them the financial aid requirements and deadlines for your colleges. Let them know that if their cooperation is required for consideration of financial aid.

what if i just give them the 2004; my parents are unable to file their 2005 taxes until the middle of march.

You need to discuss your financial aid application deadlines with your parents. The year you are going to be a freshman is NOT the year to put off doing your tax returns. They really should be done ASAP after Feb 1. If the schools or IDOC are requesting 2005 signed tax returns, they are very clear. They will NOT process your finaid application until they receive the information. Period. Schools have deadlines that they expect applicants to adhere to. I would suggest that you talk to your parents about the implications of missing finaid deadlines (application will not be processed...and once it is if late, there could be less money available to you). Why can't your parents file before the middle of March? Perhaps they don't know that you need this done asap. Please talk to them, print out the deadline info for your colleges...and see what you can do.

Please also keep in mind that a school only allocated a limited amount of "their' money for grants and scholarships (this includes schools that meet 100% of your demonstrated need).

Your getting your paperwork in late means that if you are accepted, your aid package will not be processed all of the information the school requires is turned in.

In the mean time the school is still allocating money (scholarship/grant aid) until their allocation runs out. Those that are last on the list will end up with packages that are less in grant aid and heavier on loans (as a school can meet you need with loans).

welll my dad said that he hasn't filed his 2005 tax yet

He really needs to file them ASAP your college may not give you a financial aid award with out this information.
