My son is going into 9th grade. When should he take SAT subject tests? I wanted him to take living environment in feb just as a practice as he’s an anxious test taker bit someone told me colleges ask for number of attempts.is this true? What do you advise? Should he take it in August 2018 vs. feb in which case gen would be a dry run
I would not waste the money on practice attempts on a Subject Test. Buy a prep book and use the practice exams with a timer. While most colleges allow score choice for Subject Tests (and BTW most colleges don’t even ask for Subject Tests - it’s pretty much top colleges that require/recommend), there is an opportunity cost of time and money involved.
There is no Living Environment Subject Test. I assume you mean Biology. If you live in NY, be aware that the living environment class prepares for Regents, not the Bio Subject Test. Depending upon the teacher/syllabus, the gap between the two may be small or large.
Particularly is the gap is large, I’m not sure of the need for a freshman to take the Subject Test. He might be better served taking Chem or Physics in a later year or taking the Bio Subject Test after AP Bio (one does not need an AP science class to do well on the Subject Test, but some students feel more comfortable/better prepared by doing so).
Neither. He should take in May or June of the year in which he is taking the corresponding class. That way it’s fresh in his mind. Additionally, Subject Tests are not even given in February.
