When does Financial Aid come out?

I received a notice about my financial aid today. SMU isn't very generous, is it? :(

hah. i agree.
i went to one of their meetings, and they made such a big deal about how they give out money.
complete BS.

Is this notice by mail or online?

I got it in the mail. SMU's aid is very disappointing. I'll go to Berkeley for free instead. Bye SMU!!

Uh..ya honestly, good choice rlh! Ya SMU is not very generous. In fact, they are raising the tuition by a good sum of money for next year. The amount of financial aid is decreasing for the incoming class. SMU is very expensive...too expensive I think, and you don't get your money's worth. Take the meal plan for example. $2,000 a SEMESTER! I mean are you serious?! I pay 2K a semester for less than satisfactory food and service...I could go on forever about this. But ya the point is, SMU is overpriced and overrated, as is highland park. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but that's the truth from an SMU student.

Yeah, I'm starting to regret choosing SMU, but its my parents choice and they're money so... their loss.

I mean, it looks like a great school. The price is a lot. But money doesn't seem to be my parents' problem.

That's the thing...it LOOKS like a great school mostly because of it's pretty park-like campus. Don't get me wrong, academically, smu is a good school. But when you get down to the details, you'll find a lot of artificiality in the people, the administration and you'll find yourself overpaying for things that don't really cost that much. SMU will try to squeeze every penny out of you. Anyway, good luck!

Well I hear a lot about how God needs money, and religious people tend to be very tight with money, greedy, ridiculously arrogant, artificial (much like the ways they live their lives and the things they live in), and down-right rude. Here’s an idea for you!! Go to a REAL college that can actually teach Science in a setting where there is no God. Here’s another idea… Don’t allow our tax money to go to a place that is just a disgusting money grubbing institution. Oh and denounce your faith it’s a waste of time and won’t get you anywhere! Start thinking critically.

the thread is 4 years old kenntheknight…

and SMU is pretty secular when it comes to teaching. They teach evolution and all the stuff the church denies. There’s almost no affiliation with the methodist church besides the name.

Please don’t slander schools before you do your research.

Hi Kenntheknight, I just wanted to address a couple of concerns you raised. One, as SMU is a private school we don’t receive a taxpayer subsidy so I’m not quite sure what you mean with the “tax money” comment. Next, SMU is non-sectarian in its teaching. There’s no religion in the classroom here! We are a research institution, so our faculty are in no way inhibited by our Methodist affiliation and do groundbreaking research in the sciences (and other fields). I’m also concerned by your assertions that we are not a “real” school or that we operate for profit. Neither of these are based in reason; rankings and our incorporation clearly disprove your assertion. Finally, one’s religious preferences are of course personal, however our donors (most of them Christians) have been more than generous over the years and supplied our university with a large endowment and world class facilities. In fact, we just passed the $550 million mark on our current capital campaign.
