Financial Aid award posted on access.smu

I have been checking access.smu.edu every day looking to see if financial aid awards have been posted, and my son's package was posted today. If you are anxiously awaiting that information as we were, you might want to check your account.

We had given up on SMU because no scholarship offer came in the mail. Offers are posted plus enough grant and work study aid to make SMU cheaper than the other options. Still waiting for TCU.

When did you receive a username/password to access access.SMU? I’ve never logged in before and don’t remember ever getting a User ID or password. Did it come in an email?

The user name is the SMU student ID number that came on the acceptance. I think a temporary password came in an e-mail, but I think if you have your ID number you can request another password that will be sent to your e-mail, then you can reset it. I am not positive about this but that is what we recall.

It came in the mail a few weeks ago.

I still have not received my FA offer. Anybody else?

Well my “offer” is on access smu, but it is barely anything. i got the smu mustang scholars and its a joke. i have a great gpa and sat. i am president of debate club and win tournaments all the time. i even started my own club at school (philosophy club). SMU is definitely not an option anymore. The stats on their website about how much aid they give are bull…

Wow, my mom emailed the engineering school asking about scholarships and apparently I was 50 points away from the sat cut off point. This just ridiculous. For a school that claims to take a “holistic” view on everything this is just plain unfair. Does SMU care that I have a 112 in AP Computer Science? Does the engineering school care that I am a good public speaker who can give presentations without looking at the floor? Does SMU care that I took the initiative to create my OWN club at school? That I got people to join and taught them about philosophy, something I am passionate about? Nope. They only give money starting at a certain number.
Every single time I visited they went on and on about how great the financial aid is, how smu is affordable. How if they didn’t give you enough money you could wager with them. This is absolute bull. They claim there average SAT is 1300. They also claim that 53% get over 25k in merit based aid. But what they don’t tell you is that you need at least a 1350 to get any of that money. Something does NOT add up… SMU: stop with the lies and getting peoples hopes up. How many questions does a difference of 50 points on the sat equal? 4? 5? Is that the difference between success and failure? NO!

But maybe this is a good thing. Let’s be honest SMU’s engineering school is a joke. I only wanted to go to be close to home.
Thanks for killing my dream SMU! I will be going to a higher ranked engineering school next fall and when I graduate and get job and get married I will make a scholarship for people to NOT go to SMU.

Thanks for nothing SMU…
