I asked this on another thread and haven't yet gotten an answer so here I go again. I know that they make the assignments based upon the priority date given to you after you filed your initial $25 application fee. I read that they guarantee your priority date if you return the housing preference/agreement form with the fee (not sure how much...it is a rent downpayment) by a certain date. Does anyone know how long we have to return the form? Is it May 1 (when admission deposits are due) or will we be forced to make a decision on attendance earlier in order to secure (and not lose) our housing priority? Note: The early decisioners had to have theirs in by their deposit date (although it was only about a month later).

It used to be that everyone had a different date depending on when they paid the application fee. If it's the same, your specific date should be on the paperwork you received to turn in.

My daughter's priority date is October 12 however we have not received any paperwork yet to turn in. My question is: when do we need to actually send the rent deposit for the dorm in?

seiclan,

I don't know if this answers your question or not, but it is all I was able to find at www.housing.ufl.edu about rents and deposits:

[RENT PAYMENT] >> back to top
The first rent payment is an advance payment (applied to the rent) that is due by the date indicated on your housing brochure label and the payment identification form. Payments must be received by check or money order with the payment identification form agreement (include UFID on check or money order). Payments cannot be made online. Advance payment is required with a signed payment identification form unless you are a participant in the State of Florida Prepaid Program (in which case, all we need is your signed payment identification form). The balance of rent payments are due on the following days:

Aug. 1 Final Fall Semester Balance Due

Thank you Gnu! So I guess this will be in the acceptance packet in the mail or shortly after. I did not see you post in the decisions thread. What happened?

Nothing on line yet. Hopefully we will find out tomorrow. :)

in a few weeks we'll get a new housing form. to reserve your spot, u gotta at least pay the down payment which we made months ago.

My son received his early decision on December 3rd. He had to have his $200 registration deposit in by January 16th. The housing brochure was mailed out to him postmarked December 23rd. In the brochure, it says that your Student ID and housing deadline date are printed on the mailing label. His housing deadline was January 23rd, so it was about a month after they mailed the brochure.

After you fill out your dorm choices online, you receive a confirmation e-mail, instructing you to highlight and print off your housing ID payment form -- and mail that to UF with a $200 housing deposit, postmarked by your housing deadline date.

For the balance of the dorm rent, this is what it says in the housing brochure: "Fall residents receive rent statements with area check-in and assignment information for fall in July. Fall rent is due in August. Assignments can be viewed online in July."
Hope this helps.

One more thing....... You can go back online and change your dorm preferences after you have submitted your initial preferences and $200 deposit. For fall semester, you can make changes online until June 1st.

My son submitted his preferences and mailed his payment ID form with the $200 deposit before his deadline, but we still hope to make a couple of additional trips to Gainesville this spring, to see more of the dorms. Since our last trip, I've met women who have sons in Weaver and Murphree, and both kids have agreed to show us around their dorms. So my son may decide to revise his dorm preferences.
