Keeping in mind that:
1. I plan on staying in residence... Haven't been able to shag up info about move-in dates of previous years. So this part I'm still puzzled about.
2. Do I need to give myself extra time before the madness of frosh starts to go shopping for things? For example, they don't sell winter clothes here so I'll have to get some in Montreal.
3. I'll be going to Montreal alone, and I have a friend there who has offered me to stay in his parents' house for a few days should I be needing it next year.

When would be the most ideal date to arrive in Montreal? Also, if you'd be so kind... Is United Airlines good?
Thank you so much in advance. I'm desperate for any info I can get on this matter.

You won’t need to buy winter clothes in August – you’ll have plenty of time to get those later when the weather starts to cool down. What you will need to allow yourself time to buy is the basic stuff you will need for your dorm room – bedding, towels, a few dishes, desktop items, printer, etc. By the time Frosh starts, you will want to be settled in.

My D arrived from California this past fall a few days before move-in at the residences and had enough time to buy what she needed. Also, keep in mind you can arrange to move into Rez early for around $30 extra per day. We did this and it worked out great.

Good luck! Congrats on your acceptance and I am sure you will love it at McGill :)

Move-in days will most likely be on the weekend of 24th and 25th of August. It might be a good idea to wait until that is published until you buy your airline ticket. Or call them and ask, they might be able to tell you before it is published.

Like EnsMom said, a couple of days before move-in day are plenty, even on move-in day is fine. Frosh week is as crazy as you want it to be, you can have some of your own down time if you want to. You do not need to buy everything right away, you will have plenty of time to shop even after school starts on weekend and on your free time. You are right downtown next to the underground mall and above ground stores with hundreds of shops within walking distance.

I would take the offer from your friend’s family if it is not too much trouble. The time difference and jet lag could take a few days to get yourself reoriented. It is also good to make connection with people that you can have as a back up as something might come up and you might need their help later on like holidays stay or place to stay after school ends but before you can take off to get back home.

United is a major airline in the US, their reputation is somewhat of a middle of the road American carrier. For one time or occasional travel, there should not be a any problem, you will be alright with them.

Overall, just from the little indications from your post, I think you are going to be fine. It is going to be wonderful and exciting time at McGill especially for someone coming from so far and a different place such as you. Best of luck to you.
