When is the deadline for accepting your loans?

All my financial aid is already automatically accepted except for my loans. I heard that the deadline is May 1 but that doesn't seem right to me.

Also, as long as berkeley is listed as your 1st college on your cal grant, should you automatically assume that you will receive it?

bump
does no one know?

next year?

for the fall semester?

I’m pretty sure you can accept them at any point during the award year 2009-2010. If you’re asking when you can accept them so that they’ll be disbursed at the beginning of the semester, I don’t know the exact date but I’d guess 2-3 weeks prior to the date in question.

Why wait, though? You can accept them now and if you need to change it at any point you just go into the financial aid office. Up until the point where your loans are disbursed, there is no penalty – at that point the only penalty is that you’ll already have the ~3% origination fee deducted from the total amount (not a big deal).

well, i am not sure if i should accept them now because my parents want to give me some of their savings for the first year so that I would borrow less. I just need a week or so to think about it and decide though. Plus I can’t really go to the financial aid office because I live in SoCal.

You have way more than a week to deal with it. In fact, I’m almost positive you can wait to do it until July or so without it interfering with your financial aid disbursement for the fall semester.

And you can call the FAO. In fact, I recommend doing so if you have these questions as they, of course, have the official word.

ok, thanks a lot. you were very helpful.
