When is the Swarthmore Admitted Students Open House weekend?

While everyone is biting their nails these days, does anyone happen to know when the Swarthmore Admitted Students Open House weekend is? My D has applied and I have my 40th high school reunion to attend in April for which I need to make flight reservations. I keep checking the website, but haven't found anything so unless someone on CC has the answer, I'm going to have to call tomorrow.

It'll be April 16th and 17th. :]

Forgetmenots, thank you for the information. It overlaps somewhat with my reunion; wouldn't you know? So if she gets in, we'll have to figure something out! :-} Thanks again.

CarolynB,

It is my understanding that most students attend these events without parents.

Swarthmore will have vans picking up the students from the airport and will return them to the airport provided that they are flying in at regular times. There is a train stop right by the entrance of the school and transfers from Amtrak to Septa are easy for those coming by train. The Greyhound bus transfer to Septa is also a piece of cake. So do not miss your reunion on account of this, but I do hope that you will have this delightful dilemma....

We just put our daughter on a Southwest shuttle to Philly and said "have fun" at Ride the Tide. And she did.

Transportation is a piece of cake. Even if you miss the shuttle bus at the airport, you can do door-to-door from the airport terminal to the campus on the SEPTA train. Two different train options from NYC. Several bus options. Easy transportation is one of the real pluses for Swarthmore.

Do we stay in the college dorms?

Yes. Sleep in dorm rooms. Eat in the dining hall. Bring a sleeping bag and try to be well-rested because college hours can be a bit of shock to the system.

So if you and your roommate have family staying over, the room will be pretty packed. You're sure about that, interesteddad?

Yes, I'm sure. Accepted students stay in dorms with student hosts during Ride the Tide.

Actually, the campus is so overwhelmed with the extra people that admitted students are probably sleeping just about everywhere. I know, in Mertz, my daughter used to set up visiting students with mattresses in their "breakfast nook". I imagine that the couches in all the common rooms get used, too.

I don't know what you mean by "family". Ride the Tide is for accepted students, not their families.

If you and your roommate have family staying over? Your own family? Whose family? I'm not sure what you mean... Yes, just to reassure people, just like with regular overnights, of course accepted students stay in the dorms. There's really nowhere else for them to be, anyway. :)

There's always a campout on the beach for RtT, and often specs move around a lot. Admitted students all do have rooms to stay in, they all have hosts - but often you want to stay with the friends you've made, so people choose alternate locations. : P

Oh right. I was thinking of Family weekend.
