Swarthmore's Admitted Students Weekend (Ride the Tide) is on April 17-18 this year. Who's going/psyched/ready to party?

me. :D
tho i gotta get in first >.>" rotfll
will be waiting for that fat envelope sat...

Me!! My travel arrangements are all set up :-) I just need to send in my $26, lol.

i'm going! i'm so freaking excited to meet my potential future classmates.

Can someone explain what this weekend is? The acceptance email said there'd be information in the packet they send, but I don't want to have to wait all weekend to find out...

It is a couple of days when all accepted students are invited to come check out Swarthmore. You stay in a dorm room with current students (usually in a sleeping bag on the floor), eat in the dining hall, etc.

There are events planned -- special lectures from professors, tours, info sessions about academic departments, clubs and organizations, etc. There's a special lunch with a professor or two at every table so you can ask questions. And, a lot of staying up late shootin' the breeze with real live Swarthmore students.

Several hundred "specs" show up, so it pretty much overwhelms the campus.

All accepted students are invited? Even regularly notified RD students? I saw on another thread that the deadline for registration was March 24th...

All accepted students are invited to RTT. You have to pay for the transportation, but everything else is free, I think.

How come some accepted students have ONLY heard of Ride the Tide on CC?? My son was accepted ED but 3 weeks ahead of the event, he has not yet heard anything from Swarthmore about this. Anyone else in this situation?

I think the info about RTT is sent at the time of RD acceptances. So everybody gets it at the same time.

Thanks nngmm -- this is what I figured also. But as RTT has been a topic of discussion on CC for more than two weeks now, I was beginning to wonder.

I encourage Early Decision students to go to Ride the Tide. Their purpose is a bit different since they aren't trying to make up their minds. However, it is a fantastic "trial run" as a college student for a couple of days. I believe the experience makes September easier.

Onemoreparent,

Kids have been posting about Ride the Tide because it was mentioned in the early write letter they received the first week in March. There is a special site for admitted students: here is the link 2012 Admitted Students Site | Login

My daughter received an early write letter. I am not exactly sure how she found out about the admitted students site but in that site under Ride the Tide there is a FAQ section. One of the questions addresses Early Decision students:

I am an Early Decision student, should I still come to Ride the Tide?

Yes! While you have already made a commitment to come to Swarthmore, you can still take full advantage of this opportunity to learn more about your home for the next four years. You will also have the opportunity to meet many of your future potential classmates.

This is classy on Swarthmore's part. A number of colleges do not include the early decision students. A friend of mine called NYU to see if her son could attend their version of Ride the Tide and she was told he could not!!

My daughter was admitted early decision in December, but this is the first we have heard of the site at the above link. Is this a site just for RD kids or should she have been sent a login?

Swatmom,

My daughter is away at a competition, so I have no way of finding out how she learned about it. It is my guess that the site's main purpose is for the RD kids to learn more about the school and make an educated decision.

swatmom:

I'm sure that the ED students are meant to be included in the '12 website. The website probably went live after ED letters were mailed.

Back in the day, when my D was accepted ED, a number of information packets arrived at about the time of the RD decisions.

I'm going to RTT. I'm excited! a friend of mine goes to Swarthmore so hopefully I'll get a chance to see her when I'm there.

Interesteddad:

My daughter received a pkg with a "we haven't forgotten you" letter and a login to the '12 admitted students website on Saturday. She is esctatic all over again.
Thank you!

For those going to RTT, do you know what we're supposed to do with the travel arrangements? I called the travel agent a long time ago and scheduled a trip on amtrak, but all I was told was when my train departed and arrived. Am I supposed to purchase the tickets and then have them reimburse me, or were they supposed to mail them to me? I was under the impression that it was the later but I haven't gotten anything and its only a few days away....

Swarthmore helps pay for transportation to RTT?
