The Maine House passed a bill to eliminate all religious and philosophical exemptions to vaccinations. Since the House is controlled by the Democrats, it should pass easily. SO relieved!
I was very pleasantly surprised this week to find out that West Virginia, usually in the top five for anything bad and the bottom five for anything good, is one of only three states that allows vaccine exemptions for medical reasons only. Itâs nice to be ahead of the curve for once.
In the vaccine world, the states usually at the bottom for social programs, elementary education, arts in the schools, etc., at at the top for the highest percentage of vaccinated school aged children - Mississippi, Florida, Alabama.
The highest pockets of âunvaccinated by choiceâ areas are often in the most educated areas - Boulder Colorado and Marin Cty California, Washington State, etc.
Colorado has a bill in the legislature to make it harder to opt out but the libertarian governor, who is from Boulder, will not sign. It is reported that in Boulder, some schools have a 50% unvaccinated rate. FIFTY!
In our state, it seems like itâs the charter schools who have low vaccination rates.
I wish all states would pass laws only exempting vaccinations for medical reasons (though very sad they have do).
And now a cruise ship is quarantined in St. Lucia becsuse of a measles case. Ironically, this scenario was the theme of a recent episode of Madame Secretary about a month ago (see post# 3842)
Not really a âcruise shipâ. Itâs the Scientology Freewinds - The Freewinds is the exclusive training center for OT VIII (Operating Thetan Level 8), the highest level of Scientology and the last of the published OT levels. ⊠A significant portion of the ship is given over to its use as a religious retreat for Scientologists.
My guess is the Thetans donât vaccinate - probably for religious reasons.
A case of mumps at Swarthmore:

charter schools are public schools
The mumps part of the MMR vaccine appears to wear off fairly quickly (10 years). https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2019/04/how-long-do-vaccines-last-surprising-answers-may-help-protect-people-longer
Scroll down for the chart that shows how quickly mumps and pertussis become ineffective.
NPR just did a piece on the measles outbreak worldwide and specifically talked about the Ukraine with over 70,000 cases in the past 12 months ending in February. And this:
"Madagascar is grappling with a measles outbreak that has sickened 70,000 people and killed more than 1,000. "
Yea, the charter schools are officially public schools but in practice there seems to be very little oversight of them in our state and there are some lawsuits and criminal charges for gross mismanagement and more.
Has this been posted? Well, he got vaccinated⊠the hard way.

So is his health insurer paying?
how can such educated people be so dumb?

And he still might not think he should have to get vaccinated if he doesnât have bad case. In the meantime when he was contagious and didnât know it he could have spread it to someone in line with him at fast food place or at a movie theatre who is immune compromised and will not react so well. Selfish
Re: #3871
Seems like the objection to the chicken pox vaccine has to do with abortion, since some human cell lines used in vaccine development were originally derived from aborted fetuses in the 1960s.

Even if you disagree with something done in the past, you canât change it. You can only make the present better.
These numbers are truly shocking
I got my titer back and Iâm immune to measles, yay! I was vaccinated during one of the iffy years and I want to ride the subway with no worries.
^^may I ask what it cost for the titer? Just trying to balance that out vs. getting vaccine. (had measles as a kid, but not sure which one, so-called German measlesâŠdoes it matter?) Per CDC, for pre-'57 births, getting a vaccine is no big deal.
