Im a senior in high school, haven't applied to any colleges yet because I'm waiting to re take my SAT at the end of January. I have no idea when to apply. Before or after applying to college? When I'm accepted into a college?

Well, unless you know where you’re applying it doesn’t make much sense to file FAFSA as it won’t go anywhere.

But what if you do know where you are going and know you’ll be accepted?

I do know where I want to go and I’m almost postive I’m going to get in.

Do you know what schools you are applying to & what dates their financial aid is due?
Some schools deadlines may have already passed.
Public schools have later deadlines but you should know what schools you are applying to by now & what they require.

You can complete the FAFSA and submit it to any college you choose. You don’t have to actually end up applying to the schools. If you plan to apply to any college, I would suggest you complete the FAFSA and submit to those schools.

You do know that you can apply to colleges and then send them updated SAT scores, don’t you? You need to check the application deadlines of the schools and make sure you don’t miss those. If it were me, I would apply now.

Ally,

What schools are you applying to?

If you tell us, we can help you with more information.

I am applying to Dalton State College and Georgia Northwestern Technical College

Also,my parents dont do their taxes until April. Do I use 2010 figures when applying for FAFSA?

If your parents have paycheck stubs from end of year- that has most relevant info on it - use that, not 2010 info then correct when taxes are filed.

So both of those schools have later admissions deadlines, so you have time to complete everything.

You can always check what the deadlines are at both of those schools for “financial aid” on their websites. Are you planning on being a commuter student or living on campus?

I will be a commuter student.

Hey what about Frostburg State in Maryland. I am an instater student

Just be aware that any need based aid you get based on your ESTIMATES (using 2010 figures) will be ESTIMATES…and yes, your award could change.

Your parents really need to get their taxes done a LOT sooner than April this year…if you don’t update your FAFSA with the figures from your tax returns until April, the schools will not have time to review your FAFSA and finalized your award. You will be making your matriculation decision based on estimated financial aid figures. The year you are a freshman is NOT the year to wait until April to complete your taxes.
