When should I ask my teachers for recs for the match program?

Thanks.

10 char

As soon as school begins in the fall. Personally, I only decided to do QB in early September, so I had a few short weeks to write my essays, get my recommendations, and fill out all the forms. I was very fortunate to have teachers and a counselor who were not yet bombarded by other students’ recommendations (most of my friends only began asking for recs in October because EA/ED deadlines weren’t until November) so they were able to complete everything in time.

However, it would be really nice if you would ask your teachers now in person if they would be willing to write you a rec the next school year. You don’t have to get too specific about QB but just make sure that they are willing to write you one. They can then start formulating what they’d say about you as early as now.

Adding on to what oneswifm2 said, if your school starts pretty late (September), you might even want to e-mail your teacher before school starts to be considerate so they aren’t pressed with time. I personally just had my English teacher who wrote my College Prep award recycle her letter of rec. and asked for an additional one from my Psych teacher during the first week of school.

If you can, tell your teachers by the end of the year that you will be applying for it and if they could save your letter of rec. so they can use it for next year, or have your second teacher write it over the summer.

Good luck!

My suggestion: JUNE. Do your research first-ask this years seniors which teachers do the best recs, AND which teachers are able to get them in on time etc. Also, once the teacher agrees, provide them with a general resume. Make sure they know that this will be due EARLY. Explain the QB program to them etc.
Also: Do not be afraid to use a teacher/class where you struggled, but nontheless, worked very hard and did your best. Often these recs mean more than the “johnny was the best student in my class” recs.
