When should I sell my textbooks to maximize demand?

I have brand new textbooks I bought last year but never used because I dropped the class. i didn't want to sell then cause everyone had books already and i wouldn't get a good deal, so I plan to sell in the fall term.

When do you think I should sell to maximize demand? How many weeks into or before school starts? Also, any recommended places to sell, ebay, craigslist, facebook, etc.

Well, here's the formula: Date to sell book on 365 day calender)=(Date Class Begins)-(Initial Cost of Book)(Number of Students in Class).01 + (How big an ahole you really want to be about it)

I have been selling books for the past week and almost all of my textbooks have sold quickly. I was also glad to unload some expensive theoretical books that I hadn't read. I had tried to sell a couple of them last December and January, and there were no takers. Now, however, they went fast.

Right about now would be good.

now would be good. i already bought all of mine and so have most of my friends

As far as selling online, summertime is best because students have a large block of time where they aren't busy with classes and know what their classes will be (as opposed to before second term, where they have less of a window between scheduling and the term starting, and will be busy with classes/finals/holiday break).

Sometimes, you can get pretty good offers for selling things back to the bookstores (also good for people who don't want to deal with the hassle of potentially needing to bring extra books home, putting stuff up for sale/auction, waiting for someone to buy, and then shipping it). In this case, you want to sell them back as soon as you can. I noticed they offer more early on, probably to make sure they at least some minimum amount of them, and then offer a standard amount or less once they get closer to the number of used books they think they can sell next term. I was kind of surprised when I took back some old books last year, and got something like $10-20 more than what the bookstore's website said I'd be offered for said books. However, sometimes they know that book is not going to be used or a new edition is coming out, in which case they'll offer you nothing, and you're better off selling it through different means.
