I have been trying to figure out what my schedule should be in the next few years. I am having trouble, though, on where I AP Bio and AP Chem should be. Here is my schedule (or at least what I have):
Freshman: Honors English 1, Honors Geometry, Honors Biology, AP HUG, Honors Spanish 2, Band, and School mandated elective
Sophomore: Honors English 2, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Chemistry, AP WAP, Honors Spanish 3, Band (1 spot left)
Junior: AP English 3, Honors Pre Calculus, AP Physics, AP US History, AP Spanish 4, Band ( 1 spot left)
Senior: AP English 4, AP Calculus, AP US Government and AP Macroeconomics, Band (3 spots left)
I also want to take AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, AP Comparative Government and AP Microeconomics (would this help me?), and an anatomy class at my school. My goal is to double major in pharmaceutical sciences and neurosciences at Michigan- Ann Arbor with a minor in business as well.
Thank you in advance.
Have you heard about the SAT II? Anyways, AP Biology should be taken after a rigorous course of Biology and SAT II Biology (at least that was what my school did). The SAT II gives you a lot of details that makes AP Biology a bit easier. For AP Chem, CollegeBoard recommends to take it after Algebra II/Trigonometry because there are a lot of things based on that. My friend’s Chem teacher, who also teaches Chem, said that they won’t accept any students who didn’t take Alg II/Trig. Your schedule looks alright but if you want to focus in Medicine, you should take APs that revolve around science in general. Also, which AP Physics are you taking there are like 4 of them. Instead of Pre-calc, why not Honors Calc (and AP Calc AB is even better). What is AP WAP (is that World History)? Is it mandatory for having Band for 4 years and if you want to do it for 4 years it is fine. My school does AP Macro and Micro together (one for each semester and a month for review) since that is going to be your minor you don’t really have to worry about that. I would recommend switching AP US Gov’t for Psych.
My school doesn’t offer SAT ll. I will be taking AP Physics 1- Algebra Based I think. At my school, you must complete Pre-Calculus before your start Calculus. You can’t do both at the same time. WAP is AP World History. I thought that having band for four years shows commitment to an extracurricular I enjoy. Unfortunately, my school has half a semester as an economic (macro or micro) class and the other is a government class (us or comparative). I can’t switch us government out for psych because psych takes two semesters (1 is psych, the other is AP research methods). Please provide any more tips you have. Thanks.
SAT IIs are exams that can be taken in another school near you. They are hour-long and depending on the subject could range from easy to hard. It is true that being in band shows a commitment in the arts but you should have a role in a group that shows you are capable of having some type of leadership. Also, since business is your minor, doesn’t that mean you don’t have to worry about economic classes until college since colleges want to see what is your primary goal. So I suggest removing AP Macro/Micro/US Gov’t for AP Psychology or squeeze in some anatomy and physiology class. Contact me anything about SAT IIs
