When should I ask my USH and Spanish teachers for recs if I won't be seeing them next year (I don't want them to forget too much stuff) :) ? I am a junior currently.

I asked my recommenders (I had both junior year but knew I wouldn’t have them senior year) late May or early June. But you can do it now. =) Depending on how stressed they are, though, you could wait until after AP testing to approach them.

Many people say to ask your teachers at the end of your junior year (late May?), so your teachers will remember what you’re like in class. Also, it’s good to get to them before the end of the school year, because by the time you ask them next year, they may have already agreed to write for other people. I did this differently and asked during the first couple weeks of senior year, just because my school is pretty laidback, and it’s uncommon to ask for letters so early.

Ask early! The latest you should ask is by late fall. That gives your teachers adequate time to whip up something for you in time for the due date (I’m assuming January 1st). I asked two of my teachers in September, but one in December, owing to a last minute discovery that I needed a math/science rec…

And choose teachers that would definitely still remember you at the start of senior year–teachers that would likely have great things to say about you, etc.

Oh, I also asked my USH/Spanish teachers too :)

@chippedtea If that’s what got you into Brown, then hey I will be asking in August/September, then. I don’t think I’m that forgettable, haha. Thanks everyone!

just wondering, do you go back and ask them to send it wherever in the fall, or how does that work?

Nice question. Any answers?

TBH, it doesn’t really matter when you ask.

I knew I would see all of my teachers again, although I didn’t have their classes, except one teacher. I asked them in May of my Junior Year and then again in August/September of my senior year. I wasn’t applying anywhere Early Action or Decision, so it was ample time I felt :)

I would ask after AP testing is over and the teachers are less stressed towards the end of May of junior year. When you actually come back for the letter senior year, do it EARLY as possible :)

The earlier the better.
