Do people usually buy books before the classes start(like now) or do people wait until the first they and they are 100% sure what books they need? Because I know sometimes professors change at the last minute.

I’m just wondering because I don’t know if we need them right on the first day or not, plus I don’t want to buy books now and find out I don’t need them.

OK thanks. So you guys think it’s safe to buy the books Sisweb recommends without having to worry the teacher will tell us to buy a different one? That’s really my main concern.

My sister graduated from Davis and she said that although it may not be likely that the professor changes textbooks, it DOES happen from time to time. And if the text changes on you and you have the wrong version you will waste money and time. So the best way to approach buying textbooks is going to the actual class first week and getting a syllabus with the ISBN. You have a week to get it all sorted out before class starts. Use express shipping if you don’t think it’ll arrive on time. Or you can always e-mail the professors and see if they can promise you the text won’t change in the next few weeks.

I say get at least some of your books now. If you know for sure that you’ll be taking a class and not dropping it or anything, the chances are slim that the textbook will change last minute, so just save money and buy it in advance. If the book does change, you can always just resell it, and if it does change, then you’re prepared in advance.
