When to start?

Hello everyone, I'm attending one of the senior military colleges as a freshman, and I wanted to reapply to the usna. My question is when should I begin everything?

I've already sent in all my senator/congressional nominations back in July, and I will be hearing from them in Dec. I'm hesitating to start the prelim app because once I get a packet in the mail, I have 6 days to do my dod medical examination, and its very difficult for me to leave campus. I only have thanksgiving and a month of Christmas break to get my interviews and recommendations complete. What do you guys recommend I do?

I am not sure how the process works from those in a military college-
however, I would suggest giving a call to the admissions office.

My thoughts are that you should start the peliminary application at the very least- you will still need a candidate number to proceed. Get that, then work out the appointment process for DoDMERB. While Dec seems late to get the medical process started, if that is all you can do then schedule an appointment for then- but get the process started now.

Interviews can always be done over the phone, even with your MOC for those away at school. Just make sure you put a contact number in your correspondence.

What senior military college are you at?

You may have already gone down this path but...assuming their is an NROTC detachment at your college I would sit down with them to discuss your approach and what, if anything they can do to help.

At the very least I would determine who you are going to ask for recommendations and give them a head's up.

I may have missed something but with two kids that went through this process I don't ever recall anything about a 6 day window for DoDMERB exams...

Bottom line is as you know you are rapidly running out of time, if this is something you really want to do, you need to find a solution that works within the constraints of your current environment. I would certainly think there are people around you that would be happy to help make this happen. Not like you're looking for an excuse to run off to Woodstock.

If you took a DODMERB physical exam when you applied last year, there is no need to take another one this year.

DODMERB qualification is good for 2 years.
