When to study for MCATs?

I was wondering if anyone could give me info on when it would be best to start studying for MCATs. I know that some students start as early as fresmen year, but is there a deadline for when you have to take it by? Is it better to take it early on, or later (like junior year)? And what classes should be on your schedule. If anyone could give me some personal advice, that would be wonderful...but websites are great to!

Here's how I did it. I took it in August of 2004 and started studying in June 2004 with a Kaplan course. (This was the summer of my freshman year. I took it early because of the program I am in.)

I think it is probably best to take it during your sophomore or junior year.

As for the courses I would recommend taking, I would say Introductory Biology, Physiology (not necessary), both Inorganic Chemistry courses, both Organic Chemistry courses, Physics Mechanics, Physics E/M, and Physics Fluids/Thermodynamics/Optics (not necessary).

The courses that I have marked not necessary are the ones I did not take before taking the MCAT.
