When and how much time do I need to study for SATs if I'm taking it in March? I have a Science Fair Project during December and January, and maybe February. I can start during Christmas break but I'm afraid I'll still have lots of homework then, but I'll have to start somewhere...

I'm currently taking AP Bio in school but I'm self-studying for AP Chinese and of course the 2 SAT subject tests. So I guess I'll study for all 4 tests right after I take SATs in March?

It's a bad idea to take SAT II Bio and Math 2 in October right? Since I'm currently learning both (AP Bio and Pre-calc) in school.

And finally, is ACT necessary if I'm taking all these?
Please answer!

Start studying ASAP, even if its just a little every day. For example, you could memorize may be five vocabulary words a day, and do 5-10 practice questions on any section. Then, when time allows, do a whole section, or even a full test. When you really have enough time, you should do a section a day.

Taking the SAT IIs in october may not be a bad idea since the material would be fresh in your mind, and the only studying necassary would be reviewing.

Gee, thanks for being a commercial shill, Gerry. :P

@ThePariah, like Mac said, it’s best to do a little every day. The SAT doesn’t reward cramming, really, because it’s primarily a test of skills.

Some vocabulary memorization can help, but on the whole it’s not a memory test. And the vocabulary is easiest to acquire in small doses.

For everything else, it’s repeated practice of the skills that will help. Do a little bit every day. Just 10-20 questions and a review of a few math techniques, essay-writing skills, etc.

SAT IIs are a different animal, though. I agree with Mac: take them when the material is still fresh in your mind.

ACT is not necessary, but if you find you are disappointed with your SAT performance it can be worthwhile to take it. Many people do significantly better with the ACT, others don’t.

It seems like the commercial shill you refer to has either deleted posts or had those posts deleted for him, they have disappeared from the Important Threads

Well yes I can take the 2 subject tests in October or just 1 in May and 1 in October, but what about my 3rd time taking SATs? Wouldn’t November 2014 be too late? If it’s not too late, then I’ll take SAT 2 Bio in May and Math 2 in October because Math 2 in May might be a tiny bit too early, but I’m not going to take 2 subject tests in 1 day if I don’t have to. But I would really like to focus on just SAT 1 in the summer, but I need you guys’ opinion on this.
And also, I’m going to study 1-2 hours per week during the weekend until January and February where I’ll study more than that each week.
I have the blue book currently, should I start from that?
Or the questions on Collegeboard.org?

I’m looking to buy these
Barron’s SAT Critical Reading Workbook
Barron’s SAT Writing Workbook
Barron’s SAT Math Workbook
PWN the SAT: Math Guide

These 4 books does seem a lot, 1 Barron’s AP Bio book is already killing me but AP Bio is harder than SATs IMO, but are there anymore books I need or these books are fine along with the blue book? I need more work on CR and W than Math but still.

Thank you! So are the review books I listed good enough or should I switch/ buy more?
And is studying a couple hours a week with the exception of days off (thanksgiving, winter break) until the last month studying every day enough for March 8th test date?
