When to visit campus/interview?

Although applications are due early January, will doing a campus visit/interview after still count for demonstrated interest? I can probably do the interview in a nearby city through their website, but the campus is 5 hours away and might have to wait. If I am accepted, my family will definitely visit, since it is one of my top choices.

Also, is a visit and interview weighted equally, or is interviewing enough?

My guy did a phone interview with an alumni and we visited after he was accepted.

Interest can be demonstrated without visiting campus - but I’d suggest a 5 hour trip shouldn’t prevent you from visiting. Our son interviewed with an admissions officer in a local hotel lobby near where we live. Several prospective students were interviewed back to back. Interest should also be demonstrated by contacting your U of R admissions rep.

We went on an accepted students day and did an alumni interview here.

Try to arrange what ever type of interview you can before January so that the interview will be considered in the the application process. My son was supposed to interview in Jan but that year we had a college rep on the board and he suggested doing it earlier if we could arrange it for that reason. I rescheduled my son’s interview for Dec at a different location.

@‌lakemom I’ll email them and see if I can arrange that. The website is giving me a date for a NYC interview on Jan 5th which isn’t too late after the deadline, would I be able to do that? I prefer an in-person interview and driving down to the city isn’t so bad.

Also, is an interview necessary? I’m very interested in U of R, but if I can’t make the interview, does that negatively impact me?

Yes, that should be enough time to have it considered in the process. My son’s was originally late in Jan which is why I moved it earlier. I personally think if you can do the interview do it. It can only help show how interested you are in UR. After my son was accepted, the person who interviewed him emailed him that she was glad that he was accepted. It was nice that they let her know that her input obviously was part of the decision. Good Luck!

Thank you everyone for your advice! I contacted UR about it and my interviewer said they are actually able to do interviews until February for it to be counted. I’ll be having mine on Monday over Skype
