When to write common app essay?

Hello!

The summer of my junior year is going to be totally jam-packed; I will be working a job and taking two classes, in addition to SAT studying. Should I be preparing for college in the summer months; for example, applying for scholarships and writing my common app essay? Or can I do this while school starts? If so, I can take one less class. Thanks for the advice in advance!

It all depends on how good of an essay writer you are (i.e. does thinking of ideas and writing come easily to you?) and how many essays you’ll be writing. If you think you can wait to start writing and have them done and polished, then wait. If not, start now. Either way, you might as well start brainstorming/thinking of ideas and how you’re going to structure your essays.

the earlier the better, especially if the school year is busy for you

It’d be good if you came up with an idea or a basic draft this summer :)
