When Will Decisions Be Released?

Hey, not that it really matters, since all admissions decisions have probably been made, but I got an early-write from Williams and a flat-out rejection from Amherst. When I visited both schools a few months ago, I really loved Williams and felt pretty indifferent regarding Amherst, though I recognize that it’s a stellar institution. So my point is: getting rejected from certain schools isn’t necessarily indicative of our chances at others. I know this isn’t a revolutionary observation, but my recent spat of decision letters has impressed upon that “school fit” is a two-way street, and admission committees know this.

got rejected from vassar and grinnell.so my hopes are not high at all

congragulations cermi :)

iabin, the probability that you will get an invite from one of these is pretty high

“Waitlisted at Amherst, Grinnell, Oberlin and Middlebury”

@ JohnAdams12

What makes you think that? I’d love for it to be true, but if each of those schools thinks I didn’t have that factor to make me stand out in the application pool, I don’t have much hope. I have two more LAC’s to go, and I just hope they’re not rejections.

Have there been any people go got waitlists/rejections from LACs like Williams and Amherst and acceptances from HYP?

iabin, what is the probability that if you got waitlisted from one good school that it would admit you eventually?

what is the probability if it is two schools?

how about 3 schools?

and now, your case - 4 schools…?

so what is the probability that at least one of those four schools would admit you from the waiting list?

Well, the chances on the waitlist, to the nearest whole number, and according to the figures for 2009 from the Common data set are:

26% grinnell
0% Amherst
6% Middlebury
2% Oberlin

I know it differs from year to year, but not that much. The probability is still pretty low.

However, I see from the Stats Profiles that there are some people who get waitlisted/rejected at Amherst/Williams/Midd who get into an ivy, so now its all down to the four day wait.

i feel your pain. waitlisted at hamilton and vassar - not having high hopes for williams.

Same here, I never thought I’d have a legitimate shot at Williams, but I just wanted to apply to some of the top top schools, even though I was sure I wouldnt get in.

Thank you, writer.
I sorta found a trend with the stats profiles on this website; a waitlist at both Amherst and Williams points to a high chance at the lower ivies (Dartmouth, Cornell), so I’m hoping for a waitlist at Williams for my own vain hopes, as strange as that may sound. Anyway, lots of Williams rejects have gotten into HYPS.

Best of luck to everyone for Williams.

^^Seems strange, not that I am doubting you. The acceptance rate at Dartmouth is lower than Amherst and Williams so I would take being waitlisted as a contraindicator of getting in to Dartmouth. I realize there are different pools of applicants; maybe that’s it?

or simply that those two very different types of colleges want different types of people. Some people are more LAC than Unis while some are vice versa.

I’ll buy that but Williams and Amherst are probably more similar to Dartmouth than to most other universities. Time will tell. My D has apps out to both Williams and D. She was accepted to Pomona and offered a full tuition scholarship to Claremont McKenna so my crystal ball has her getting in to Willaims and quite possibly Dartmouth. The only other app she has out is Princeton–that’s a big maybe, of course. Pton has a new/revitalized ballet program so I’m hoping D’s 12 years with that may be a tip.

S accepted a Williams and Amherst, rejected at Dartmouth and accepted at Brown. Chose Williams.

^^Great choices. Congratulations.

There goes my theory. And hope.

It’s different for every application and every person. You can’t make theories. Hope for the best, plan for the worst. That’s always the best option.

iabin, I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you

See everybody back here in 2 days, and what, 2 hours? Best wishes to all!

8PM so 5 hours :P
