When Will He Start to Pack?

Now I am going through S's room to find things that he probably should have taken with him. I will get a flat-rate priority box from the post office and fill it up!

I have been slowly cleaning son's room. Today I am finally doing the laundry that was left behind. In the pile-a pair of the jeans we bought 3 days before he left. I bet he hasn't even noticed that he forgot them at home.
One great find- oil paintings that he had done in his freshman painting class. He had them under the bed with a portable easel. I knew he had taken painting but didn't know he had bought an easel or that his paintings would be so good.
I won't mention some of the other stuff I have found under the bed.

Any one else disappointed that tons of space doesn't appear as offspring unit departs with their stuff?

cottonwood513, don't you know basic physics? Stuff expands to fill the space available to hold it. Duh....

It does, only as floors you can walk on in a room previously off limits.

S and DH are driving out to school. I am flying in two days later. I expect my baggage allowance will be reserved for whatever S thinks of while they are in the car for two days!

Finding the floor makes such a huge difference. Now his room seems so empty that I have the urge to sprinkle a few things here and there: wadded up paper, crumpled jeans, dirty socks.

I know what you mean. It felt like she was taking so much stuff, but it looks like nothing is gone at all...

Dd vacuumed the floor for the first time in years (literally.) We have a floor! Stored stuff is stored and any visitors could actually sleep in her room while she is overseas. I'd actually trade the clean floor back for a visit from my DD, but it looks like I'll have to wait ten months for that :(

That's what I mean! If you remove a pickup truck full of stuff...why no extra space?

If you look in my D's closet, her windowseat, her night stand and the top of her desk, you would think--no, you would SWEAR-- that someone is currently occupying her room.

I do intend to make some order out of things, but I'm not up to the task yet, since I'm still adjusting to my official empty nester status.

The exception is dirt.

There is never enough dirt to fill the void left by digging.

It must evaporate. ;)

Oh no, not always true... If you dig by the light of the full moon after midnight there is extra dirt when you are done re-filling the hole. If I recall correctly it has something to do with the bodies you drop into the hole.
