When will I know if I get a callback for MT Steinhardt?

I applied Early Decision for NYU Steinhardt. I submitted everything for my application and sent my prescreening videos. Since I’m doing ED, the only callback available will be on December 1st, so when will I find out if I get a callback? I want to make sure I have enough time to prepare myself (musically and mentally), book a hotel room, etc.

I do know that NYU was shut down for at least a week due to Sandy. They had no power. So, everything is delayed…they may not have had the chance to even watch your prescreen. I know that we submitted ours the 3rd week in October, and they haven’t watched it yet. I would call and ask. They are very nice…

Yes, I would just call the office and ask- things got pretty crazy around here! The administrators and professors are having to deal with a weeks worth of missed classes and rehearsals, so it may be a little later notice than they expected to give, but I’m sure that everything will work out fine!

Has anyone heard anything from the prescreens yet…?

Help! Anyone? Has anyone heard back? They haven’t looked at our prescreen materials yet, and I’ve called and emailed and can never get a response. I’m afraid they materials got deleted or something when they lost power from Sandy for so long. Has anyone heard anything? I’m getting ready to give up, b/c calling every day is really starting to get old. I can never get a live person.

I’m bumping this…has anyone out there applied regular decision to Steinhardt and heard back from the prescreen? Anyone…? We sent ours in mid-October, and it still hasn’t been viewed. :(

Just got a yes back from Steinhard for both VP/MT. Now to schedule…Hope everyone hears soon. If not, maybe it’s time to call in the next day or two.

Thanks, Ewanes! Congrats to you! Nothing yet for us, but if I don’t hear soon, I will call…again. Did you get an automatic reply when you submitted your materials for MT? We did not, and that concerned me, but they told me not to worry about it.

I haven’t heard back for Classical Voice yet. Freaking out a little. Called NYU today. Phone lines were busy for 30 minutes. Hung up, called another number and the lady said that prescreen results had not been sent out. Any other news from anyone else?

ssharma13, we still haven’t heard either, and my D’s prescreen has not been viewed. Not sure what’s going on…

ssharma13, we JUST this very minute heard back from NYU and were invited to audition. The email was for both MT and classical voice (they had links to choose an audition date for both), so I imagine the classical voice people are hearing back now, too. Good luck!

Hello! I just received an invitation to audition today. Best of luck to everyone else!! (:

Hi everyone. My daughter received a message that Steinhardt has everything they need, no audition required at this time, and to watch for admissions decision from NYU in a couple weeks. We contacted Steinhardt staff to ask if this meant that she was not chosen as a potential candidate for the MT/VP. They told us that it is not a denial/rejection letter. They said they don’t need any additional information at this time. And that the NYU makes the admissions decisions. Any insight what it really means? Do they accept prescreen materials alone and not require auditions for everyone?

keenspirit6, I was under the impression that they auditioned everyone. I have not heard of that happening to anyone before, but there are not a lot of Steinhardt applicants/students on this forum, so it might be more common than we think. There is a current student (kswag10) and her mother (Christie2) here, and they may be the best people to ask. Hopefully they will see your post and answer if they know more.

Hi Monkey13…thanks for your reply. Maybe kswag10 or Christie2 can help. Thanks very much and good luck on your audition :)

“They said they don’t need any additional information at this time. And that the NYU makes the admissions decisions.”

"…that NYU makes the admissions decisions" seems to imply academic admission. I am no expert, but I know that you have to accepted both academically and artistically in most cases. I know my son has four academic admissions at this point —and we applied late. He’ll be doing his auditions for artistic admissions at Unifieds.

It’s confusing that some schools seem to offer admission on a rolling basis (leaving EA and ED out of this equation), but others notify all students in March or April. Can someone clarify this for me? I though that especially the more selective colleges, I am thinking that NYU is fairly selective, would notify everyone at the same time. But maybe not!

If they really liked what they saw from the prescreen, maybe they are saying you just have to wait for the academic process to be completed. Could be great news!

Well, let us know if you hear anything.

keenspirit6 - did you ever hear anything further about this? My daughter received the same letter and I assumed it meant that she did not pass the prescreening. The confusing part is the last sentence, “please be on the lookout for an admission decision from NYU office of admissions in the coming weeks.”

My daughter does currently attend NYU Steinhardt, but her admission followed the usual process of prescreen, vocal audition on campus in February, and then an email in March that accepted her into MT/Vocal Performance. She was accepted into NYU academically at the same time. A packet followed about 3 weeks later that didn’t specifically say Vocal Performance, but it was the only thing she had applied for, so we knew that was it.

As far as my daughter knows, ALL NYU regular decision acceptances go out on the same day, a Friday, in late March. They do it at 5:00 PM and post a video of the vice-dean of students pushing the mass email button and then have an office party. It’s legendary!

As far as we know, there have been no changes in the process, so if anyone has questions we encourage you to talk to NYU Steinhardt Vocal Performance. We’re also not aware of Steinhardt ever holding auditions of any kind at Unifieds. However, they may possibly hold auditions in NYC the same weekend as NYC Unifieds, but they would be privately held on campus. Just a reminder, Hurricane Sandy really messed all things up in NYC and many things are still recovering . . . and the Steinhardt Building is going through major architectural renovations so classes, departments and computers are getting changed in location right now and for the past few months. (new costume shop and dressing rooms, yea!)

Best of luck to everyone!

Hi folks,

I just happened to see this thread. FYI, there is a similar thread, about confusion with regard to the same NYU Steinhardt letter, in the music forum, where folks have been trying to piece together what it means. The OP has put in a lot of effort, making calls and trying to get to the bottom of it:

Keenspirit6 - Just wondering if you ever heard anything further about your daughter’s application for NYU Steinhardt?
