When will I know

does anyone think there is any possibility that we will hear tomorrow? i can't stand the thought of receiving bad news on a monday. a full week of school after my dreams have been crushed...rough

I think someone said they were sending letters out Friday afternoon. Depending on where you live I would say you'll probably get it Tuesday or Wednesday.

Why, if they have made the decisions, are they stalling?? So annoying. I think NY will hear Monday. I hope..

So it's official my boyfriend and friend both just got into Duke. Seeing that i spend most of my time with these two, if i don't get in early, i will be even more miserable.

Just because i am a nervous reck does anyone want to post if they have any "admissions hooks" (i.e. recruited athlete, legacy, ethnicity other than white). even if it's not great to hear, i think it will help prepare everyone and let them know what they are up against. of course, i want everyone (including myself!) to get in but unfortunately thats not the way things work. So i'll go first..legacy and possible athlete for one of two sports (but not recruited)

You're from NY? What part?

**I'm from Long Island

Westchester

I wish I had hooks. I guess geographical diversity (I'm from WA) is all i have going for me in terms of hooks. I suck at sports, I'm probably negative in that category... I've got a lot of mock trial awards and stuff, and I told them I'd start a team if I got in

The closest thing I have to a hook is I was a finalist in this national essay contest (Profiles in Courage by the Kennedy Library). That was a big deal, but its not like a legit "hook." Wasn't recruited, never got a book published (unlike one Yale hopeful in my grade) never played an instrument in Carnegie Hall (unlike the same Yale hopeful, lol..my grade has a collective inferiority complex to this kid) and I'm not the first in my fam to attend college (again...)

Also, I'm a white male from NY..can't say i really stand out from the pack in any significant way

so you guys realize that like 1/3 (or what ever percentage it is) of the class of 2013 is already set in stone? How nuts is that? Those of us who are in are already in and those of us who are out are already done. The intervening time between now and when we find out is just buffer space.

The problem is that I actually don't know what to do with myself during this buffer space. I mean, it's supposed to snow here next week. So that would delay my letter, which would, in turn, suck.

what happened to, "Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night...?"

Hey everyone! I'm new to this site.
Just in reference to the Bowdoin class of 2013 group on facebook, at least a few of the people in it are just joking around. If you look at the wall posts of the groups listed under "related groups," some of the same people from the bowdoin wall are posting on all of those colleges' walls as well saying that they're going there.
So don't get too jealous =)

I just took my facebook stalking one step further...I just clicked "view friends" for 6 random people in the Bowdoin 2013 facebook group, and all of them only had 9-15 friends, which makes me think that someone made up their profiles? But who would waste their time doing that?
lol this is pretty weird...

I have no hook....haha
well I don't really know what they would consider one. I have lived in 4 different countries and i guess that could be somewhat of a hook. I wrote one of my essays about living all over the world and then moving to Boise Idaho. So idk.
I have some varsity sports.
I went to a national final of a model rocket competition last year too.

I think that national rocket competition thing is pretty sick, especially if your considering majoring in physics.

in 2007 the son of the Taiwanese ambassador to the United States graduated from my school and got into UPenn with like a 3.2-3.3 GPA. I think thats about as close to the definition of a 'hook' as one can get.

I am jealous of your mad physics skills, zfox. Hey guys, if we get in, we have to go have super snacks the first day they are available!

haha....it is SOOOOO ironic
my only Bs in high school came from Honors Physics in Sophomore year...i had like an 88 all year....it was terrible...could just never quite get there. I am good with practical stuff...but sometimes the conceptual stuff got me...plus sophomore year i wasnt too serious.

we are goiing to try and go back this year...hopefully win the national competition so we can go to Paris this summer

I'm from Boston too! I hear there's a rediculous number of boston kids at Bowdoin. Are you from the city or suburbs?

& lol seriously does no one else think what I said about the fb group is weird?

Cyrillic was derived from the language that was created/adapted by Cyril, when he and Methodius left the Middle East to spread the faith of Christianity. Both were somewhat derived from aramaic and hebrew, and as a result there is almost a direct correlation between the alphabets. Indeed, the phonetic sound that is supposed to be created is supposed to have one aspirated sound, and one non-aspirated; you'll notice that "T" and "Z" are both aspirated.

Nah yo, check wiki (the source of all truth) my spellings legit.

And guys, actually, Bowdoin did accept more kids last year than they have in past years, but not by mistake. Word on campus (i learned during my overnight) is that they want to increase their size to 2000 over the next few years.

omg.....i wonder when i am going to get my letter....i hope it is soon....at least before sunday...i hate not getting mail on sundays. its terrible.
i am really nervous now
