When will OSU post financial aid information for returning students?

I am a returning second-year student at OSU and I was just wondering when I will receive information about my financial aid, as it hasn’t been posted in Buckeye Link yet. Will it be later in the summer when summer term is coming to a close, or will it be sometime soon? I would just like to know for planning purposes in terms of how much I need to pay out of pocket and if loans are necessary.

The financial aid office had already posted up awards awhile ago in grants and loan money. They said they will finalize in the scholarship money for transfer and current students by sometime towards the end of this month the middle of June time frame.

I’m going to be a second year as well, and so far nothing has been posted for me either…

I, too, am still waiting only financial aid information for this school year. I am starting to get worried, since a few of my friends received theirs last week.

I haven’t seen anything yet either as far as Autumn '13, but when I asked student services back in April, they said it would tentatively be the beginning of May…

Notice for Returning Students for Autumn Semester 2013

Please be advised that award packages for Returning Students will not be processed until mid- June. There have been some changes within federal rules and regulations that are impacting our ability to process award packages within our original timeline. Additionally, there has been an increase in the amount of loan origination fees. Therefore, if you have a student loan that is scheduled to disburse on or after July 1, 2013, you will be able to complete the master promissory note on the Department of Education website, however, Student Financial aid will not be able to send loan origination records for processing until after the Department of Education?s system upgrade has been completed after June 28th.Your promissory note checklist will not be completed and available for viewing in the Student Center.

If you have specific questions about either of these issues please visit the Student Service Center. Thank you for your patience.

^ Yeah I just saw that message the other day, I guess I’ll just have to wait until later in the summer to see my aid posted.

It’s mid-June. Post it already!

Now it says the end of June. This is causing a lot of anxiety for students who really need to plan financially for August and have no idea what they might qualify for this next year other than loans, since it changes annually (at least it has for us). Aggravating.

Mine still says mid-June.

Okay, my message changed. It says the first week of July, now. Are other schools having this problem?

Mine got updated this morning.

Mine was finally posted today as well.

Quick question for anyone who knows though because I’m the first child to go to college and my parents don’t know, and neither do I. Under the financial aid tab it tells my EFC, my “need,” and my estimated cost of attendance. I think it lists the estimated cost of attendance as if I were paying tuition and fees, room, and board, but I’m living off-campus this year and did not sign up for a dorm or for a meal plan. I’m paying for my rent and living through what I’ve saved from working. Will eventually the estimated cost of attendance number it’s listing be changed to reflect just the tuition and other fees I have to pay? If that makes any sense haha.

You Estimated Cost of Attendance will remain the same, because it reflects the cost of living expenses regardless of where you live (in the dorms or off campus). So, even though you won’t have to pay the school room and board, they recognize that you still are going to have living expenses and award you accordingly.

I am a first year student this year, but have a question for those of you that are returning and aid. Is there a big difference in what you receive first year to second? I know GPA is required to maintain some, but I am wondering if there is a possibility to receive more aid second year and on? I have enough between OSU scholarships and grants and external that I am in great shape for my first year, but some of my externals will not renew second year, so any advice is appreciated!

-Enolamae

As long as you maintain the requirements for each scholarship from OSU they should be renewed. There aren’t really any additional scholarships available to you as a sophmore at OSU that you couldn’t receive as a freshman. However, if you were qualified as a freshman and didnt receive a certain scholarship you always have the possibility of getting it next year. Also, each college within OSU has their own financial aid and scholarship opportunities. As a freshman I applied for scholarships from the college of engineering but didn’t receive anything. However, this year I received a small amount from the college of engineering. This amount will supposedly continue to increase through your senior year.

Thank you for your input, much appreciated!

Thanks! So when the information on the account inquiry is put up to show me the actual amount I’m owing that semester, it will just show my tuition/fees and things like that and not a dorm/meal plan thing since I didn’t sign up for those, correct?

Emyski: Yup! And your cost of attendance will remain the same.

Thanks bjord023!
