Financial aid offer

Has anybody received the financial aid offer yet? (the offerr where the bottom line is and what is expected for the student and family to contribute) I believe the are supposed to be sent this week.

My daughter received merit scholarship info earlier this year, but it listed only what OSU will pay. Not sure about FAFSA awards.

not the merit scholarship info, my son received that as well. The the letter where he did not receive the Medalist came the week of March 19. But is in the most recent letter it said that the FAFSA info and the offer would come in the beginning of April. Just checking to be sure something does not get lost in the mail.

Nothing yet. Has anyone heard about the Distinguished NMF awards yet?

The following link takes you to the Office of Financial Aid home page:

If your Student Aid Report indicates that the school may require you to submit documentation, please wait until you receive an official request from OSU detailing any required documents.

Financial Aid Packages (Awards) for entering Freshmen will be processed after April 4, 2007.

Hope this helps.

I created a log in, then went there and got this.....(assuming they are a bit behind and will be available tomorrow???)

do you have to first send in your acceptance fee and stuff first before you can access the "your status" page?

^^^ I wouldn't think so, as some students need to know what their package is before making a decision to attend.

I just called the financial aid office. They are a bit behind, they are anticipating them in a few days. I checked my son's specifically, his was not complete yet. They did verify that all of his needed information is complete.

I just got my daughter's info. from the "Financial Aid Status" and I must say I'm disappointed, just the Scholars and Scarlet & Gray Scholarship. She got a lot more from Miami U. Thank goodness she wants to go there anyway. We were just waiting in case we got a great deal from OSU.

Just saw my son's offer online. I can't do it, no possible way. Only way he will be going to OSU is if I win the lottery!!! I called, this is the Final Offer from OSU. They said there may be other outside scholarships offered, but sometimes notification is not until sometime during the summer. Even then, I cannot expect enough to come close to covering the balance due.

MOM - sorry to hear about your plight. My son's status doesn't seem final yet. If he doesn't get that Distinguished thing for NMFs, we might be in the same boat, since our EFC is ridiculously high. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

OH MOM, that is not great news. Why would they keep this news for the summer when decisions have to be made by May 1st. It's fine for those who have already chosen to attend OSU, but of no value to those who needed more $$. Sorry.

good job osu for only giving me 4,800 dollars while UNC chapel hill gave me 20,000+, it now costs less to go OOS and to a muuchhh better school (UNC) than it is for me to go to OSU as an instate. kinda wierd how that works out...funny thing is that i am a HUGE buckeye fan and was so passionate about becoming a buckeye, and would have considered giving up unc for osu. thanks for making my decision so much easier, this is why osu is ranked 57th for undergrad while unc is 27th. way to screw up your undergrad admissions process by offering less scholarship than a tougher school does, this is how you lose good students (big thanks to the morrill scholarship committee for putting me on the waitlist).

just wanted to vent my anger at osu thats all.

SWIM - I agree, it doesn't make any sense...

Anyway, congrats on UNC. I tried to convince my Son to look at UNC, but he didn't want to go down south. Go figure.

I went to Duke way back when but I spent a lot of time in Chapel Hill. Beautiful town, wonderful school and some of the prettiest girls on the planet. A guy could do a lot worse. :)

Much better weather, too.

Since my son is OOS, I don't understand why everyone is so surprised by the financial aid offers. If your EFC is high, which ours is...the understanding was that beyond any merit $ from OSU, we were going to get nothing....which we did. Still, we calculated that OSU becomes about the same price as attending our in-state school -- because from there, we would also get..nothing. I think EFC across the board for any school is going to be similar. My son also got nothing from Miami of OH, albeit a very small merit scholarship that amounted to 1/2 of what OSU gave him. So I think that if a certain school gives you more, it is primarily going to be based on merit and not any kind of financial calculations. A high EFC is just that..and no one is going to give you any kind of grant $ for that.

you're right RSquare

When that number came back I probably never should have encouraged my son to go to a school out of our income range. I was just hopring for more merit based scholarships.

thank you PP, good luck to you and your son on your decisions!!

I am sorry swim4china89 that you did not get your first choice either, and good luck to those still going to attend and PP ~ I hope your son gets the NMF. And congradulations to those that received the Presidential & Medalist!!!

OH MOM, everyone else -

Sorry about the less-than-stellar financial aid. By some twist of fate, I got into my dream school - UC Berkeley... and I got the same treatment. They're offering about $300 (yes, three hundred dollars) in aid to me - and it costs around $45 k to attend. It's a little better at OSU, though. I'm really conflicted and quite disappointed, as my EFC isn't extraordinary... thankfully I have a scholarship with around $15k a year that will help me no matter where I go.

Still, it's quite disappointing. I'm sorry OSU's package isn't ideal. I hope your child finds happiness. :-(

I have a tough decision to make soon, too.
