when you apply to college, is your GPA rounded? i mean, are a 3.996 and a 2.995 rounded to 4.0 and 3.0 respectively?????? im referring to NYU and George Washington... and others. THANK YOU:D

Please tell me you're joking. Are you actually serious?

Ha. No. a 3.95 and a 4.0 are totally different!

NNOOOOOOOO i said 3.995

This is up to your high school on how much they round and which number goes on your transcript.

No, the thing is, im an international and my school doesnt send out GPAs, just As and Bs etc. but i think my GPA is like 2.995 or 2.996... will colleges round that to 3.0?

The GPA number is usually X.XX. So it should be rounded.

lol thank god for you:D

Erm you would have to take at least 200 courses to possibly get a 3.995.

no i took 25 courses in highschool... 5 in 9th grade, 6 in 10th grade and 7 in both 11th and 12th grade.

3.995, 4.0 what's the difference? Who cares if its rounded or not...

In my opinion, for the Really, REALLY competitive schools, they don't really care about the GPA... they'll just count how many non-A's you have.... :(

hahaha no that was an example!... i stand at about 2.995 or 2.996, not sure... and for NYU, it would mean a big difference if it was rounded.... any more thoughts????

Why can't you just put 3.995?

I guess no one really understands my question:(... will a 2.995 be looked upon as if it were a 3.0?????... are GPAs rounded? does the 2.995 round to a 3.0???

Oh looked upon... well I don't think 2.995 or 3.0 would seem that different. However, a 3.995 and a 4.0 are very different. 4.0 is assuming you didn't mess up a single class, 3.995 suggests you did mess up at least once. But the difference is quite minimal, is yes they are really close. So I don't know why the stressin' out.

Nope, your GPA will not be rounded because they will not look at your GPA, they will look at your transcript. You can say your GPA to convey a general idea of how your grades are, but looking over a HS transcript for 30 seconds an admissions counselor can get a much better picture of who your are than from a number.

^ I second that.

but if they were to calculate it.... my Transcript is full Bs... then theres like 6 or 7 As and maybe 3 or 4 Cs... 25 courses... so if they were to calculate it and it ended up being 2.995.. it would go to 3.0 right?

No. GPAs are truncated not rounded.

I don't know how colleges handle a discrepancy like that, but I've seen job offers rescinded when students list a "3.0" as their GPA and the school reported a "2.97". The worst part about that is that most companies don't verify that your information is correct until a week or two before you start.

And, no, a 2.995 will report as a 2.99. A 2.9959 will report as a 2.995 on a 3 decimal scale, etc.

Can anyone confirm that?

Okay you're making this a way bigger thing than it actually is. If you have a 2.9 whatever, it will be see as just that. They do not care what that number is, they care about the letter grades on your transcript!
